MARS Memory-Health Network, a leading memory clinic serving patients across southeastern North Carolina, is seeking a full-time Adult Neuropsychologist to join our Wilmington practice — a role that pairs a manageable clinical caseload and strong support for professional growth with an exceptional coastal quality of life.
About the practice
MARS is an independent, privately owned practice with strong academic roots. It was founded through the University of North Carolina Wilmington’s Knowledge Transfer program, and that collaboration remains active today: Our principals are UNCW faculty who lead ongoing research, and the practice serves as a clinical training site for the university’s doctoral psychology students. MARS also runs an in-house postdoctoral training program in clinical neuropsychology, which includes clinical rounds through a partnership with a regional health system. MARS combines an academic, research-informed environment with the stability and focus of private practice. MARS is a trusted referral source for physicians across the region, receiving referrals from as far as the Chapel Hill area.
The position
You will conduct comprehensive neuropsychological evaluations for an adult population that is predominantly memory- and dementia-focused, including Alzheimer’s, vascular, frontotemporal, and Lewy body dementias, as well as mild traumatic brain injury. Opportunities to work with child and adolescent cases are also available.
Opportunities for dual-career couples
A second neuropsychologist position may also be available. We welcome inquiries from dual-career couples seeking to relocate together and are glad to discuss how we can accommodate both partners.
Caseload and support
- A manageable caseload of approximately seven evaluations per week.
- Evaluations are typically completed within two weeks, made possible by protected time for report writing and a full support team.
- Dedicated psychometricians conduct test administration and administrative staff manage scheduling and coordination, allowing you to focus on interpretation, diagnosis, and patient care.
Professional development
- We fund licensure costs and continuing education.
- We actively support and encourage board certification in clinical neuropsychology (ABPP/ABCN). For clinicians who are board-eligible but not yet certified, we provide mentorship, protected time, and support in preparing practice samples. Board certification is encouraged but not required.
- If you wish to teach and mentor, you will have opportunities to supervise our postdoctoral fellows and to have medical students shadow you. These roles are available but not required.
- Optional involvement in ongoing research is available through the principals’ academic work.
Compensation and benefits
- Salary: $110,000–$120,000 per year, commensurate with experience and credentials.
- $5,000 relocation assistance.
- Comprehensive health and pharmacy coverage.
- Retirement plan.
- Flexible scheduling supporting a sustainable work–life balance.
Qualifications
- PhD or PsyD from an APA-accredited program.
- APA-accredited internship.
- Completion of a two-year postdoctoral fellowship in clinical neuropsychology, or five years of neuropsychology experience.
- Licensed or license-eligible at the doctoral level in North Carolina.
- Board certification (ABPP/ABCN) — or eligibility and intent to pursue it — is a plus.
Living in Wilmington
Wilmington offers an exceptional quality of life. Set on the Cape Fear River along North Carolina’s southeastern coast, the city pairs a historic riverfront downtown with easy access to Wrightsville, Carolina, and Kure beaches. It offers a mild coastal climate, a thriving arts and dining scene, a growing healthcare community, and a cost of living well below that of most major metropolitan areas — an attractive place to live and practice.
