Senior Controls Engineer
Extensive U.S. Travel
$60 – $65 per hour + Overtime, per diem & benefits
An established international automation organization is launching its U.S. division - and we’re looking for a Senior Controls Engineer to become the technical cornerstone of the business.
If you’re the type of engineer who enjoys solving complex problems on-site, owning customer relationships, and shaping technical standards from the ground up, this is for you.
The Opportunity
In the early phase, you’ll be deeply embedded in the field - leading commissioning, troubleshooting, and customer support across multiple automation projects.
As the U.S. division scales, you’ll help build processes, mentor engineers, and establish best practices that define the company’s reputation in the American market.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Lead on-site commissioning, startup, and production support
- Act as the U.S. technical SME for controls systems
- Troubleshoot complex PLC, robotics, and SCADA issues
- Perform I/O checkout, system debugging, optimization, and handover
- Support system migrations and upgrades
- Lead root cause analysis and implement long-term corrective actions
- Serve as the primary technical interface for customers
- Partner with sales to scope and define technical solutions
- Mentor future controls engineers as the team grows
- Travel will be extensive initially (especially during major project phases), with volume reducing as the U.S. team expands.
Technical Environment
We’re looking for someone genuinely hands-on and comfortable in live production environments.
- Strong PLC experience: Siemens & Rockwell (Allen-Bradley)
- Experience with remote I/O systems (not just panel-level work)
- Experience with Ignition SCADA highly desirable
- Industrial networking: Profinet, EtherNet/IP, safety networks
What Makes You a Fit
- A true controls SME - not purely software-focused
- Comfortable owning problems end-to-end
- Strong communicator with customer-facing confidence
- Experience in smaller, agile or startup-style organizations
- Comfortable with ambiguity and building processes from scratch
Why This Role Stands Out
- Ground-floor opportunity in a U.S. expansion
- Real influence over technical standards and team growth
- Highly visible position within leadership
- Strong earning potential with overtime
- Long-term career progression as the division scale
If you’re ready to move beyond being “just another field engineer” and want to help build a U.S. automation business the right way - let’s talk.
