American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience, EKG competency, and the ability to work every other weekend including holidays.

Acute care hospital Med/Surg Telemetry unit

Patient population includes diabetes, dementia, COVID, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, encephalopathy, GI bleed, anemia, hip fracture, CHF, UTI, surgical recovery, renal failure, hypertension, cellulitis, and failure to thrive

Patient ratio of 1:6

Day shift, 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM (3x12-hour shifts)

Every other weekend required

Self-scheduling

No on-call requirements

Floating may be required to the main campus location approximately 32 minutes away

Pyxis used for medication management

Contracts of 13–20 weeks accepted; 36 or 48 hours per week available

Active NC or compact RN license required (may be pending at time of consideration)

Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required

Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Telemetry RN experience required

Required skills include telemetry interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, remote telemetry monitoring, use of rapid response/code teams, blood product administration, central line blood draws, PICC line management, peripheral IV care, phlebotomy, heparin/insulin/PCA administration, chest tube management (Emerson/PleurEvac), BiPAP/CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC), non-invasive airway management, bowel obstruction care, colostomy/ileostomy management, feeding tube care, pre/post hemodialysis management, wound care/wound vac, and isolation precautions/PPE

Two professional references from a manager or supervisor within the past 2 years required (pending at time of consideration is acceptable)

Preferred skills include ACLS, on-unit telemetry monitoring, post-angiogram/cardiac surgery/MI care, IV insulin protocols, bariatric surgery, continuous bladder irrigation (CBI), port access/management, CVA care, substance withdrawal, surgical drains, ABG interpretation, pre/post thoracic surgery, tracheostomy care, and prior charge nurse experience

Navy blue or white scrubs required

Orientation is 24 hours; pre-start modules of approximately 8–10 hours are required and must be completed prior to start

Candidate must work 2 out of 3 major holidays; RTO is not permitted during the first week of the assignment due to orientation

Up to 7 days of RTO per contract may be approved, provided it does not fall on a holiday; additional RTO requires facility approval
-
Contract staff are expected to participate in Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team assignments and may be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters
-
Any previous permanent, PRN, or per diem employee of Novant Health or New Hanover Regional Medical Center must wait 12 months before being considered as a traveler; facility rehire approval is required
