Steel Detailing Coordinator
We are seeking an experienced Steel Detailing Coordinator to manage the flow of structural and miscellaneous steel detailing between our Project Management team, outside detailing partners, engineering, and fabrication operations.
This position requires someone who understands steel drawings at a high level, can identify problems before they reach fabrication, and can keep multiple projects, drawing packages, revisions, RFIs, and deadlines organized.
The right candidate will have a strong background in structural steel detailing and be comfortable working in Tekla Structures or SDS/2.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate detailing activities between Project Managers and outside detailing firms.
- Review contract drawings, specifications, architectural drawings, structural drawings, and detailing packages.
- Review shop and erection drawings for completeness, constructability, coordination, and compliance with project requirements.
- Track detailing schedules, submittals, approvals, revisions, and drawing releases.
- Communicate project requirements, changes, and priorities to detailing teams.
- Coordinate RFIs and ensure responses are incorporated into detailing.
- Review returned approval drawings and communicate required revisions.
- Maintain organized drawing and revision records throughout the project.
- Coordinate with Project Management, Purchasing, Fabrication, and Field Operations as required.
- Help ensure fabrication receives complete, accurate, and properly released information.
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of structural and miscellaneous steel fabrication and detailing.
- Excellent ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, and steel fabrication drawings.
- Experience with Tekla Structures or SDS/2.
- Understanding of steel connections, member geometry, fabrication practices, and erection requirements.
- Experience reviewing shop drawings and erection drawings.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple active projects and drawing packages.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to recognize problems, ask the right questions, and follow issues through resolution.
- High attention to detail and a strong sense of ownership.
Preferred Experience
- Previous experience as a structural steel detailer, checker, detailing coordinator, or detailing project manager.
- Experience working directly with steel fabricators.
- Experience coordinating outsourced detailing.
- Familiarity with RFIs, submittals, approval drawings, fabrication releases, and revision control.
- Familiarity with AISC standards and common structural steel fabrication practices.
We are looking for someone who can become the technical link between Project Management and detailing—someone who understands what the drawings are saying, knows what the shop needs, and can keep the detailing process moving accurately and on schedule.
Pay: $70,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
