We are seeking a highly motivated and outgoing temporary Walking Tour Guide Supervisor that will manage the Walking Tour Guides as well as lead groups of 5-16 people around downtown Salem while providing informative and entertaining information about the city and locations on the tour. PEM's Walking Tours will provide tour attendees with accurate and engaging information about the history and architecture of Salem, and the Historic Properties associated with the Peabody Essex Museum.
The Walking Tour Supervisor and Guides work in all weather and are responsible for the safety of their tour groups. They are able to engage a variety of different groups with stories, and answer questions about the topic they are presenting on, and the area in general. In addition to guiding tours, they are also responsible for handling transactions, reporting all sales, checking in and greeting customers and attending training and debriefing meetings.
The ideal candidate must have 1-3 years of supervisory experience along with excellent speaking skills and an interest in history and education. Experience with tour guiding, acting, public speaking or storytelling is preferred, but we will train willing personalities. Knowledge of a POS system, a CRM database and First Aid certification are both a plus.
This is a full time temporary, benefits ineligible position totaling 35 hours per week with your work week being Thursday - Monday as that is when the walking tours are operating. The hourly range for this role is $20.50 to $21.40 commensurate with experience.
The Walking Tours Season runs from July 2nd through Nov. 15th and training for this role begins on May 18th. Please note that we are actively accepting applications and in person interviews will take place in late March/ early April. Applicants selected for an interview will be asked to give a 5 minute, in-person presentation on a historic story of their choice during the interview. No visuals are required.
