Director of Maintenance
Position Summary
The Director of Maintenance provides strategic and operational leadership for the Company’s aircraft maintenance organization. This position plans, directs, coordinates, and oversees maintenance activities for the entire aircraft fleet across all business locations. The Director develops, implements, and maintains maintenance policies, procedures, and operational standards to promote aircraft safety, reliability, and availability while ensuring compliance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations and applicable manufacturer requirements.
The Director of Maintenance is also responsible for departmental performance, workforce planning, vendor and aircraft-owner relationships, inventory management, and the effective scheduling of maintenance activities and aircraft inspections.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead maintenance operations across all Company facilities and ensure consistent application of policies, procedures, and performance standards.
- Establish departmental goals and monitor operational, financial, safety, and quality-related performance.
- Ensure maintenance activities comply with FAA regulations, manufacturer requirements, and Company standards.
- Serve as the primary maintenance representative when coordinating with the FAA regarding reportable events, inspections, inquiries, or other regulatory matters.
- Develop maintenance schedules and balance aircraft utilization to distribute scheduled inspections effectively across the fleet.
- Monitor staffing requirements and maintain appropriate coverage based on operational needs and workload.
- Manage departmental workflow, operating capacity, labor utilization, and overtime.
- Oversee aircraft damage evaluations, repairs, documentation, and related projects.
- Direct inventory and supply management activities to ensure the availability, accountability, and proper control of parts, tools, and materials.
- Develop and maintain productive relationships with vendors, service providers, and other business partners.
- Manage communications and maintenance-related matters involving aircraft lease owners and leaseback owners.
- Partner with the Manager of Maintenance to conduct technical employee performance evaluations and provide meaningful feedback.
- Participate in weekly Operations meetings and communicate maintenance priorities, aircraft availability, risks, and departmental updates.
- Identify opportunities to improve maintenance processes, operational efficiency, aircraft reliability, and service quality.

Supervisory Responsibilities
- Direct and manage departmental workflow, priorities, and employee assignments.

Physical Requirements
The physical requirements described below are representative of those necessary to perform the essential functions of this position:
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position for up to 75% of the workday.
- Must occasionally be able to move or transport objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to work outdoors and in varying environmental conditions, as operationally required.
- Must be able to operate standard office equipment, including a computer, telephone, and copier.
- Must be able to communicate information and ideas clearly so that others can understand.
Position Type and Expected Work Schedule
- Full-time, exempt position
- Regular schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Additional hours may be required based on maintenance needs, operational demands, or urgent aircraft-related matters.
Pay
Starting pay is at $90,000 annual salary.
Travel Requirements
Travel of up to 25% may be required to support maintenance operations at Company facilities and other business locations.
Required Education, Certifications, and Experience
- Current FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Mechanic Certificate.
- At least five years of relevant aircraft maintenance experience.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the aviation industry and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrated commercial and operational awareness when working with internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience leading, managing, and developing a team of professionals with varying levels of experience.
- Experience establishing and implementing operational standards, procedures, and performance guidelines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in Aviation Science or a related field.
- Current FAA Inspection Authorization (IA).
- 5+ years’ experience in General Aviation
- 5+ years’ experience with part 145 operations
- Private Pilot Certificate.
- Experience using Google Workspace.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
