Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Folder Operator specializing in MBO (Machine/Mechanical Binding Operations) to join our manufacturing team. In this role, you will be responsible for setting up, operating, and monitoring MBO folding and binding equipment to produce high-quality printed materials in accordance with production specifications, quality standards, and delivery deadlines.
This position requires strong mechanical aptitude, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve equipment issues while maintaining productivity, minimizing downtime, and ensuring consistent quality. Responsibilities
- Set up, operate, and monitor MBO folding machines for a variety of folding jobs in accordance with production schedules and quality standards.
- Read and interpret job tickets, layouts, folding schematics, and production specifications to ensure accurate job setup and execution.
- Adjust machine settings, including fold plates, rollers, feeders, and delivery systems, to achieve precise folds, proper alignment, and optimal machine performance.
- Perform quality inspections throughout production runs to verify fold accuracy, pagination, trim size, and overall product quality.
- Monitor machine performance and make necessary adjustments to maintain production efficiency and minimize waste.
- Troubleshoot mechanical and operational issues to reduce downtime and ensure continuous production.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance, including lubrication, cleaning, and minor equipment adjustments, to keep machinery operating efficiently.
- Maintain accurate production, quality, and maintenance records.
- Work collaboratively with press operators and other production team members to meet production goals and deadlines.
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and quality standards while maintaining a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
- Assist with training and mentoring junior operators and bindery helpers as needed.
- Work overtime and weekends as required to meet production demands.
Experience
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Experience operating MBO or similar commercial folding equipment in a commercial printing or finishing environment.
- Strong understanding of folding processes, paper stocks, grain direction, and bindery operations.
- Ability to read and interpret rulers, production layouts, job tickets, and production specifications accurately.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot equipment and perform basic machine adjustments.
- Knowledge of preventive maintenance procedures for commercial bindery equipment.
- Forklift certification is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented production environment.
- Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and flexible shifts as required to meet production demands.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
- Ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods throughout the workday.
- Work is performed in a manufacturing/production environment with exposure to moving mechanical equipment, paper dust, and elevated noise levels.
- Must be able to safely operate equipment and follow all company safety policies and procedures.
