At Jacobs, we're challenging today to reinvent tomorrow by solving the world's most critical problems for thriving cities, resilient environments, mission-critical outcomes, operational advancement, scientific discovery and cutting-edge manufacturing, turning abstract ideas into realities that transform the world for good.
Your impact
Jacobs is seeking a senior‑level Area Mining & Heavy Industry Lead to provide regional leadership across operations, client management, and sales. While mining is a key market, this role is intentionally designed to support a broad heavy‑industry portfolio including mining, aerospace and manufacturing, allowing us to capture opportunities and talent across adjacent industrial sectors.
As the Area Mining & Heavy Industry Lead, you will be responsible for growing and leading Jacobs’ portfolio of work serving resource extraction, processing, and heavy industrial clients across Arizona and the broader Southwest. Based in Phoenix, you will partner with operations, sales, and technical leadership to deliver complex multidisciplinary projects while expanding Jacobs’ presence across high‑value industrial markets.
This role combines client relationship leadership, pursuit strategy, and operational oversight, and requires comfort operating at both the executive and project‑delivery levels. You will act as a trusted advisor to clients managing capital programs, environmental obligations, regulatory interfaces, and long‑term operational challenges.
Key Responsibilities
Client, Market & Sales Leadership
Serve as Client Manager or Executive Sponsor for strategically important clients across mining and heavy industry (e.g., metals, minerals, aerospace, industrial manufacturing, tech, energy, chemical processing)
Lead development and execution of regional growth strategies that expand Jacobs’ footprint without being limited to a single sector
Identify, qualify, and champion new opportunities, including integrated environmental, water, infrastructure, and advisory services
Lead or support pursuits through client engagement, strategy development, and proposal execution
Build long‑term relationships with client executive teams, site leadership, and corporate decision‑makers
Actively represent Jacobs in relevant industrial and professional organizations
Operations & Project Delivery Oversight
Provide senior oversight for complex industrial and mining projects to ensure safe, high‑quality, and profitable delivery
Support project planning, staffing, risk management, and execution across multi‑disciplinary teams
Monitor performance related to safety, quality, schedule, and financial outcomes
Partner with project managers and operations leaders to resolve issues and maintain client confidence
Technical & Practice Leadership
Apply senior‑level technical and strategic judgment to projects involving environmental characterization, permitting, water management, remediation, operations support, and facility closure
Support development of cross‑sector technical offerings applicable to both mining and other heavy industries
Encourage collaboration across environmental, geotechnical, water, civil, and infrastructure practices
People, Culture & Capability Development
Mentor senior and mid‑career professionals and support succession planning
Assist with recruiting, onboarding, and development of key heavy‑industry and mining talent
Champion Jacobs’ culture of safety, inclusion, technical excellence, and collaboration
Here's what you'll need
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Geosciences, Environmental Sciences, or a related field
15+ years of progressively responsible experience supporting mining and/or heavy industrial clients
Demonstrated success combining operations leadership, client management, and sales or growth accountability
Experience delivering projects across large, complex industrial systems (mines, process facilities, industrial sites, or similar)
Proven ability to build trusted client relationships and lead pursuits that result in sustained growth
Strong communication, leadership, and decision‑making skills
Commitment to safety, ethics, and professional excellence
Ideally, You’ll Also Have:
Professional Engineer (PE), PG, or similar professional licensure
Experience working across multiple heavy‑industry sectors, not solely mining
Familiarity with Arizona and western U.S. regulatory environments
Program, portfolio, or P&L‑level leadership experience
Recognition as an industry leader through professional engagement or client relationships
