Senior Customs Clearance Specialist Opiton Remote
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Customs Clearance Specialist to support day-to-day U.S. import and export clearance operations. This role is responsible for handling complex customs clearance activities, resolving shipment exceptions, and ensuring timely and compliant cargo release.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, and experienced in managing CBP holds/exams, time-sensitive shipments, and customs-related escalations in a fast-paced logistics environment. This position serves as a senior operational resource within the customs team and may provide operational guidance and support on complex clearance matters when needed.
Key Responsibilities
Customs Clearance Operations
- Handle end-to-end customs clearance processes for U.S. import and export shipments (Air & Ocean)
- Prepare, review, and submit customs documentation including Commercial Invoices, Packing Lists, BL/AWB, ISF, AMS, and entry documentation / entry summaries
- Ensure accurate and timely customs filings while maintaining compliance with CBP and PGA requirements
- Monitor shipment status and coordinate cargo release processes with customers, terminals, carriers, and warehouses
- Maintain accurate shipment records and clearance documentation
CBP Exams & Exception Handling
- Coordinate and follow up on CBP holds, exams, inspections, and related shipment issues
- Communicate with CBP officers and related parties via phone and email regarding clearance status and documentation requirements
- Resolve shipment delays, missing documentation, customs rejections, and operational exceptions proactively
- Escalate high-risk or compliance-sensitive issues appropriately when necessary
Compliance & Operational Support
- Verify filing accuracy including HTS classification, shipment values, and required documentation
- Support post-entry corrections, document requests, and audit-related record maintenance
- Maintain consistent filing standards and support operational best practices
- Provide operational guidance and support on complex clearance cases when needed
- Coordinate with operations, warehouse, trucking, and finance teams to resolve shipment-related issues efficiently
Qualifications
- 3–5+ years of U.S. customs clearance / customs brokerage experience
- Strong understanding of U.S. Customs clearance procedures and compliance fundamentals
- Experience handling Air Freight and Ocean Freight shipments
- Familiar with CBP holds/exams, ISF, AMS, and time-sensitive or high-risk shipments
- Strong English verbal and written communication skills
- Comfortable communicating with CBP, customers, and logistics partners by phone and email
- Familiar with ABI/ACE and customs brokerage or logistics systems
- Experience with CargoWise, Magaya, or similar systems preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word)
- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently under pressure in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Licensed Customs Broker (LCB) is a plus
- Experience in freight forwarding or customs brokerage environment preferred
- Multilingual communication skills are a plus (Mandarin, Spanish)

Salary Range: $65,000 – $100,000

Pay: $65,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
