Position Overview
The Developmental Specialist plays a vital role in implementing the Center for Child Counseling’s (CFCC) Early Childhood Social-Emotional Wellness Supports (ECSES) Program, funded by the Children’s Services Council of Palm Beach County (CSC). This position supports young children’s healthy development by providing classroom observations, teacher coaching, consultation, and family engagement rooted in CFCC’s public health, trauma-informed, A Way of Being with Children, and HOPE (Healthy Outcomes from Positive Experiences) frameworks.
Developmental Specialists partner with early childhood educators, families, and system partners to promote children’s social-emotional growth, prevent behavioral challenges, and strengthen adult capacity to nurture resilience. The role reflects CFCC’s commitment to evidence-based practice, cultural responsiveness, and data-driven service delivery across Palm Beach County’s early learning system.
Minimum Educational Requirement:
Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Psychology, Social Work, or a related human services field required.
Experience:
- 2 years of experience working with children ages 0–5 in early childhood, mental health, or family support settings. Specific experience in early care and education environments, teaching or providing classroom support, coaching, or mental health consultation is required.
- Training or experience in trauma-informed care, Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health (IECMH), and developmental screening is highly desirable.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish or English/Creole) preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Program Implementation and Service Delivery
- Conduct classroom observations in early learning centers and family childcare homes to assess strengths, needs, and environmental quality.
- Collaborate with teachers, caregivers, and administrators to develop individualized child, family, and classroom support plans using a coaching and consultative approach.
- Provide in-class consultation and modeling of skills and appropriate interventions, as well as conduct individual child screening, assessment, and referral to higher level of care as needed.
- Implement strategies aligned with CFCC’s A Way of Being with Children model, emphasizing emotional safety, empathy, and responsive relationships.
- Provide coaching, training, and consultation to staff and parents to build adult capacity in promoting self-regulation, positive behavior, and social-emotional learning in young children.
- Facilitate parent and caregiver engagement activities to strengthen the home-school connection and promote consistency of support across settings.
- Maintain fidelity to program frameworks, including CFCC’s Childcare and Community Social-Emotional Wellness (CCSEW) Model and the Georgetown IECMHC model.
2. Collaboration and Systems Coordination
- Partner with childcare staff, Early Learning Coalition, and CSC Healthy Beginnings providers to ensure coordinated, wraparound services for families.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and reflective supervision to enhance practice and ensure alignment with program goals.
- Communicate effectively and respectfully with diverse families and professionals, modeling CFCC’s trauma- and HOPE-informed principles.
3. Data, Evaluation, and Documentation
- Complete required assessments and documentation in a timely and accurate manner, including the Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ), CLASS observations, and progress notes.
- Enter data into WELS, HBDS, and CFCC’s internal data systems to ensure compliance with CSC deliverables and fidelity measures.
- Use data and reflective practice to inform ongoing planning, track outcomes, and support continuous quality improvement (CQI).
4. Training and Professional Development
- Participate in required training including Touchpoints, ASQ, CLASS, Conscious Discipline, and Trauma-Informed Care.
- Engage in CFCC University learning opportunities, reflective supervision, and coaching to enhance professional growth.
- Model a commitment to lifelong learning, equity, and excellence in early childhood mental health practice.
