Vance Veterinary Mobile Services is a small, close-knit mobile veterinary practice providing personalized care to dogs and cats throughout The Villages and surrounding service areas. Our team begins the workday from our home base in Ocala and travels together to provide care in clients' homes and aboard our mobile veterinary unit.

What You'll Do
This is a hands-on position working closely with Dr. Vance and the rest of our team. No two days in mobile practice are exactly the same.
Responsibilities include:
- Traveling aboard and assisting Dr. Vance on the mobile veterinary unit during appointments
- Assisting with technician appointments and delegated patient-care services based on training, demonstrated competency, and veterinary supervision
- Providing calm, low-stress, Fear Free-minded handling and restraint of dogs and cats
- Obtaining patient histories and vital signs
- Assisting with examinations, diagnostics, treatments, sample collection, and procedures
- Performing trained and delegated clinical skills such as venipuncture, sample handling, injections, medication administration, and other patient-care tasks as permitted and directed by the veterinarian
- Preparing laboratory samples and maintaining accurate patient information
- Cleaning, disinfecting, stocking, and organizing the mobile veterinary unit and technician vehicle
- Cleaning and maintaining veterinary equipment and completing routine equipment-maintenance logs
- Monitoring inventory and helping ensure vehicles are properly stocked for upcoming appointments
- Accurately documenting patient care and client communication in our veterinary software
- Communicating professionally and compassionately with clients in person, by phone, and electronically
- Reviewing veterinarian-approved home-care instructions and helping clients understand follow-up plans
- Assisting with scheduling, follow-ups and phones when needed
- Safely operating the technician vehicle and, when assigned and appropriately trained, the mobile veterinary truck
- Assisting with loading, unloading, route preparation, and keeping practice vehicles clean, fueled, and ready for the day
- Following practice protocols for workplace safety, PPE, sharps, biohazardous materials, chemicals, radiation, medications, and occupational exposures
- Pitching in with the many little things that keep a small mobile practice running successfully
Veterinary duties are assigned according to the employee's training and demonstrated competency and are performed under the supervision required by the veterinarian and applicable Florida law.

Mobile veterinary medicine isn't quite the same as working in a traditional hospital. We spend a lot of time together, work in close quarters, drive between appointments, enter clients' homes, and sometimes have to adjust quickly when the day's schedule doesn't go exactly as planned.

Previous veterinary experience is preferred, but we are willing to train the right person. Attitude, communication, dependability, willingness to learn, and safe animal-handling instincts are extremely important to us.
Qualifications
Required:
- At least 18 years of age
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver's license and ability to meet applicable practice automobile-insurance requirements
- Reliable transportation to and from our home base in Ocala
- Comfortable driving as part of the workday
- Willing to operate a larger mobile veterinary vehicle when appropriately trained and assigned
- Comfortable working with dogs and cats of varying sizes and temperaments
- Basic computer skills and ability to learn new software
- Ability to communicate professionally in person, over the phone, and in writing
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation
Preferred, but not required:
- Veterinary assistant or veterinary technician experience
- Veterinary technician education or credentialing
- Fear Free certification or experience with low-stress handling
- Venipuncture and laboratory experience
- Experience with injections, catheter placement, radiography, or other veterinary technical skills
- Experience with veterinary practice-management software’s such as Shepard
- Customer service experience
- Experience safely operating larger vans or similar vehicles
Starting responsibilities will be based on previous training, experience, and demonstrated competency. Additional skills and responsibilities may be added as training progresses.
Schedule & Compensation
This is a full-time, hourly, non-exempt position.
Candidates must have Monday through Friday availability. Because we are a mobile practice, daily start and end times may vary based on appointment schedules, travel, and patient needs. The specific work schedule and expectations for the position will be discussed in greater detail during the phone interview.
Some flexibility is important, as mobile veterinary schedules can occasionally change throughout the day.
Compensation is based on experience, education, credentials, and demonstrated skill level and will be discussed further during the phone interview process.

Essential Physical Functions & Work Environment
Mobile veterinary medicine is an active, hands-on position performed in a variety of environments. With or without reasonable accommodation, the essential functions of this position include:
- Safely handling, positioning, and assisting with dogs and cats during veterinary care
- Lifting, carrying, positioning, or assisting with patients, equipment, and supplies weighing up to approximately 50 pounds
- Standing and walking for portions of the workday and performing movements such as bending, reaching, kneeling, or squatting as needed to safely provide patient care and complete assigned duties
- Frequently entering and exiting practice vehicles
- Working within the limited space of a mobile veterinary unit alongside other team members
- Traveling between appointments for portions of the workday
- Performing hands-on veterinary tasks requiring manipulation of medical supplies, equipment, samples, and patient-care materials
- Performing assigned driving duties safely when operating practice vehicles
- Working in clients' homes and other residential environments as well as outdoors in varying Florida weather conditions, including heat, humidity, and rain
Veterinary medicine may involve occupational exposure to animals, bites and scratches, zoonotic disease, sharps, medications, biological materials, cleaning products, radiation, noise, odors, and other hazards associated with animal health care. Appropriate training, PPE, equipment, and practice safety protocols are provided and required.
