The Division of Intramural Research of the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, NIH is searching for Intramural Research Training Award (IRTA) Postdoctoral Trainee in the Stroke Branch, Neurovascular Research (NVR) Unit. Dr. Amreen Mughal’s laboratory combines cutting edge in-vivo imaging approaches (multi-photon microscopy, functional ultrasound, functional MRI) with ex-vivo vascular reactivity measurements and ion-channel electrophysiology.
A postdoctoral position is available for a motivated candidate in the laboratory of Amreen Mughal, PhD (Chief: The Neurovascular Research Unit), NINDS-Stroke Branch, Bethesda, Maryland. The successful candidate will investigate basic neurovascular physiology, and pathophysiology of vascular cognitive impairment & dementia (VCID) using pre-clinical models. The research involves in vivo imaging of blood flow and calcium signaling (multiphoton microscopy, functional MRI and functional Ultrasound), pressure myography, genetic engineered animal models, patch clamp electrophysiology and image analysis using commercial and customized programs.
Prior Experience in the vascular physiology, animal models, ion channels physiology, small vessels diseases in the brain and programming/coding (python, MATLAB) are preferred. A successful candidate will possess self- motivation and desire to learn new skills. A successful applicant will join a multidisciplinary and highly interactive team of researchers with diverse backgrounds and expertise in the collaborative and supportive scientific environment of the NIH.
The Stroke Branch has advanced both basic and clinical science in its laboratories on the Bethesda, MD intramural research campus and through strong collaborations with local area hospitals. The focus of the Stroke Branch going forward will include both basic/translational and clinical/epidemiological innovative research program(s) in all aspects of stroke, acute traumatic brain injury, and/or vascular cognitive impairment. The NINDS Stroke Branch has already made important basic and translational contributions to our understanding of stroke and related disease.
