Schedule: (1) 5-days/week, Mon-Fri 6:00am-2:30pm; (2) 4-days/week, example Tue-Fri 6:00am-4:30pm
Boston Marine Services is seeking an experienced Marine Mechanic to perform diagnostics, maintenance, repair, and installation of diesel and gasoline-powered marine propulsion systems. The ideal candidate will possess strong troubleshooting skills and hands-on experience with inboard, sterndrive, outboard, and generator systems.
This role is focused on mechanical systems and propulsion equipment rather than general boatyard trades. The Marine Mechanic will be responsible for ensuring vessels are maintained to the highest standards of safety, reliability, and performance.

Engine Diagnostics & Repair
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain marine diesel and gasoline engines.
- Perform engine inspections and preventative maintenance services.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, fuel, cooling, and exhaust system issues.
- Utilize manufacturer diagnostic software and testing equipment.
- Repair or replace engine components
- Perform engine alignments and drive-line inspections.
- Conduct dockside testing and sea trials to diagnose issues and verify repairs.
Propulsion Systems
- Service and repair:
- Inboard engines
- Stern drives
- Outboard engines
- Shaft systems
- Transmissions
- V-drives
- Pods and propulsion controls
- Diagnose vibration, performance, and drive-line issues.
- Perform propeller and running gear inspections.
Generator & Auxiliary Systems
- Diagnose and repair marine generators.
- Service fuel systems, filtration systems, and cooling systems.
- Perform routine maintenance on hydraulic and mechanical vessel systems.
Seasonal Service
- Winterization and spring commissioning.
- Engine and generator service.
- Fluid changes and maintenance schedules.
- Vessel inspections and sea trials.
Documentation
- Complete service reports and work orders accurately.
- Record labor, parts usage, and recommendations.
- Communicate findings and repair options to service advisors and customers.
Team Support
- Collaborate with service technicians and project managers.
- Assist with hauling, launching, and vessel movements when required.
Additional Responsibilities
- Provide exceptional customer service and communicate professionally with customers.
- 3+ years of experience diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining marine diesel and gasoline propulsion systems required.
- Demonstrated knowledge of diesel and gasoline marine engines.
- Ability to interpret service manuals and technical documentation.
- Familiarity with marine electrical systems related to engine operation.
- Experience using diagnostic software and electronic troubleshooting tools.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

- Regularly lift and carry 30 lbs and up to 75 lbs.
- Work in confined engine rooms and vessel compartments.
- Climb ladders and access vessels in varying conditions.
- Regularly required to stand, walk, sit and use hands to finger, handle and feel objects.
- Regularly required to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, stretch, kneel, crouch or crawl.
- Required to work in elevated places on ladders, lifts, catwalks and staging inside and outside.
- While performing the duties of this job, the team member is regularly required to talk and hear.
- The noise level in the work environment is typically loud
- Work is completed indoor and outdoor environments that are subject to varying levels of cold, heat, humidity, precipitation, wind, noise, dust, and smells.
- Work may be performed in and/or around electrically or mechanically energized equipment.
- Protection Equipment (PPE) due to occupational risks of exposure to non-toxic and toxic chemicals.
