Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to serve as the Boys Junior Varsity Basketball Coach at Gwinn Middle / High School. This seasonal position requires a passion for the sport, a commitment to developing young athletes, and the ability to foster a positive and inclusive team environment. The coach will be responsible for teaching fundamental basketball skills, promoting teamwork, and ensuring the personal growth of each player both on and off the court.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement practice plans that focus on skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
- Conduct regular team practices and prepare athletes for games, ensuring they understand game strategies and rules.
- Organize and oversee all aspects of the basketball season, including scheduling practices.
- Promote a positive team culture that emphasizes respect, discipline, and hard work.
- Communicate effectively with players, parents, and school administration regarding schedules, expectations, and player development.
- Monitor the academic progress of team members and encourage a balanced approach to athletics and education.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all players during practices and games.
- Collaborate with other coaches and staff to enhance the overall athletic program at Gwinn Middle / High School.
Requirements
- Previous coaching experience or playing experience in basketball at the middle school, high school, or college level preferred.
- Strong understanding of basketball fundamentals, strategies, and rules.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with players, parents, and school staff.
- Ability to motivate and inspire young athletes to reach their full potential.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities.
- First Aid and CPR certification preferred or willingness to obtain prior to the start of the season.
- Must pass a background check and meet any other requirements set by the school district.
