Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Warehouse Supervisor to lead the day-to-day operations of a fast-paced Third-Party Logistics (3PL) warehouse, overseeing a workforce of up to 50 warehouse employees.
This is a key leadership position responsible for the overall performance of the warehouse, including staffing and labor allocation, inbound and outbound operations, inventory accuracy, productivity, safety, employee performance, and customer service. The Warehouse Supervisor will provide direction to warehouse associates and leads while ensuring daily operational goals are achieved safely, accurately, and on schedule.
The ideal candidate is an experienced warehouse leader who is comfortable managing a large hourly workforce, establishing accountability, resolving operational challenges, and maintaining control of multiple warehouse functions simultaneously. This individual must be visible on the warehouse floor, capable of making quick operational decisions, and able to lead by example while maintaining a strong focus on productivity, safety, and service.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct leadership and operational oversight for a warehouse workforce of up to 50 employees, including warehouse associates, forklift operators, shipping/receiving personnel, and team leads.
- Take ownership of daily warehouse operations, including receiving, put-away, picking, packing, staging, shipping, order fulfillment, and inventory movement.
- Plan daily staffing requirements and allocate labor based on workload, shipment volume, customer priorities, and operational deadlines.
- Lead daily start-up meetings, communicate priorities, assign responsibilities, and ensure employees understand productivity and safety expectations.
- Supervise, train, coach, motivate, and hold warehouse employees accountable for performance, attendance, quality, productivity, and workplace conduct.
- Provide direction to warehouse leads and senior associates to ensure consistent execution across all areas of the operation.
- Monitor warehouse workflow throughout the shift and reallocate employees and resources as operational demands change.
- Track productivity, order accuracy, shipment completion, inventory accuracy, and other warehouse performance metrics.
- Coordinate high-volume inbound and outbound shipments, ensuring freight is received, processed, staged, and shipped accurately and on schedule.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and oversee cycle counts, physical inventories, inventory reconciliation, and discrepancy investigations.
- Utilize the Warehouse Management System (WMS) to monitor inventory, orders, shipments, locations, and operational activity.
- Investigate inventory discrepancies, shipping errors, damaged freight, and operational issues and implement appropriate corrective actions.
- Maintain proper warehouse organization, product placement, staging areas, and space utilization to maximize operational efficiency.
- Identify bottlenecks and implement process improvements designed to increase productivity, reduce errors, and improve warehouse flow.
- Ensure employees follow established SOPs, customer requirements, company policies, and warehouse best practices.
- Enforce warehouse safety procedures and OSHA requirements, including proper forklift and material-handling practices.
- Conduct or support safety meetings, incident investigations, corrective actions, and employee retraining when necessary.
- Partner with management regarding staffing needs, employee performance, operational challenges, customer requirements, and warehouse capacity.
- Assist with interviewing, onboarding, training, performance management, and development of warehouse personnel.
- Maintain a clean, organized, professional, and safe warehouse environment.
- Operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment when operationally necessary while maintaining primary responsibility for leadership and supervision of the warehouse.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of progressive warehouse operations experience, preferably within a Third-Party Logistics (3PL), distribution, freight, or high-volume warehouse environment.
- 2+ years of warehouse leadership experience as a Warehouse Supervisor, Operations Supervisor, Warehouse Manager, Assistant Warehouse Manager, or comparable position.
- Demonstrated experience supervising large warehouse teams; experience leading 25–50+ employees strongly preferred.
- Proven ability to manage overall warehouse workflow and coordinate multiple departments or operational functions simultaneously.
- Strong understanding of receiving, shipping, picking, packing, order fulfillment, inventory control, and material handling operations.
- Experience utilizing a Warehouse Management System (WMS) for inventory and operational management.
- Experience with workforce planning, labor allocation, productivity monitoring, employee coaching, and performance management.
- Strong knowledge of inventory control procedures, including cycle counts, physical inventories, reconciliation, and discrepancy resolution.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and make effective decisions in a fast-paced, deadline-driven warehouse environment.
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to establish accountability while maintaining a productive and professional team environment.
- Forklift experience required; current certification strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of warehouse safety procedures and OSHA requirements.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical warehouse duties when necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous supervisory or management experience within a 3PL warehouse operation.
- Experience managing a warehouse workforce of 30–50+ employees.
- Experience leading warehouse team leads or shift leads in addition to hourly associates.
- Experience managing high-volume inbound and outbound freight operations.
- Experience establishing and monitoring warehouse KPIs, productivity standards, and performance expectations.
- Experience with labor planning, scheduling, overtime management, and workforce allocation.
- Experience implementing process improvements that increased productivity, inventory accuracy, safety, or operational efficiency.
- Strong understanding of OSHA compliance, forklift safety, warehouse SOPs, and employee safety training.
