Every Other Weekend: Friday - Sunday 2pm - 10pm
Role:
The Registered Nurse is responsible for providing and coordinating the healthcare of children admitted to the Wichita Children’s Home. These activities include the provision of nursing services, health needs assessments, coordination of mental/psychological/medical services, medication administration, and oversight for health related policy & procedures for WCH. In addition, this position is responsible for health related training needs of staff. The overarching focus is to address the children’s medical and health needs effectively and efficiently by offering on-going health assessment, treatment, support and referrals to promote physical and emotional healing.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Administers medication including the distribution, storage, and destruction of prescribed medications. Orders medications refills as directed.
- Performs initial and ongoing screenings, assessments, basic laboratory tests, histories, and physical examinations, including performing body reports. Provides medical triage and interventions in medical situations by referring children to appropriate providers. Immediately identifies injuries which are inconsistent with the identified history for immediate action and treatment.
- Develops health treatment plans that may include medication and other therapies.
- Provides education to youth to promote habits that will prevent diseases and promote optimal health.
- Accompanies residents to community health providers to offer support and teach them how to ask questions and receive medical information.
Knowledge and Skills:
Education/Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Valid Kansas RN License
- A valid driver’s license
Other Skills:
- Ability to work calmly in high-stress situations and to demonstrate empathy and patience.
- Must have good written and oral skills, the ability to analyze and interpret data and presenting health information.
- The ability to effectively communicate with children/youth, families, physicians, multidisciplinary teams, WCH staff and the public.
- The ability to maintain confidentiality.
- The ability to provide care in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner that is sensitive to the children’s and their family’s diversity, preserving their autonomy, dignity and rights.
- Good mathematical skills, reasoning ability (problem solve draw valid conclusions).
Pay: $32.00 - $34.50 per hour
