Fire Pump Technician
About the Role
This role reports to the on-site Lead Fire Pump Supervisor and is located in Houston, TX. AFS is looking for Fire Pump Technician for immediate opportunities. The preferred candidate should be self-motivated and can complete fire protection apprenticeship projects.
What you’ll do (day to day): Under the supervision and direction of a Lead Fire Pump Technician
- Assist with installation, repair, test, and troubleshooting of fire pumps, including from start-up to final testing.
- Follow verbal and written instructions, read and understand construction designs and diagrams.
- Perform preventative maintenance on controllers and transfer switches. Disassemble, rebuild, or replace faulty pump components
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical failures, including no-flow issues, churn problems, and pressure drops.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds of equipment.
- Must adhere to company safety policies and procedures.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area.
- Learn to troubleshoot and rebuild domestic and jockey pumps.
- Learn to assemble and install low and high-voltage pump systems.
- Perform duties in accordance with the company’s safety policy.
- Perform other duties as requested.
Required Education and Experience
- Applicable experience in either the fire sprinkler or the commercial construction business, or willingness to learn.
- Experience with Domestic and Jockey pumps, installation, inspections, troubleshooting, and rebuilding.
- Proficiency in using electrical testing equipment and troubleshooting low and medium voltage circuits
- Candidates must pass a drug screen.
- Clean DMV record.
- Have reliable transportation.
- Have a professional attitude.
- Candidates must be able to show proof of work eligibility.
- High School diploma or equivalent, plus
- Aptitude for learning a career in the fire sprinkler industry.
- Self-Starter
- Normal work hours are Monday – Friday from 6:30AM – 3:30PM
