Job Description
We are seeking an organized, detailed, and dependable R&D Scientist to join our product development team. The candidate will design, engineer, and qualify our diverse library of materials to fit a wide range of applications, creating products for the medical device, cosmetic, and agricultural industries. This position will also participate in NIH-funded research projects.
Responsibilities:
Conduct product formulation screening/laboratory experiments to confirm the feasibility of processes and techniques used in the production of materials
Design and/or conduct mechanical, chemical, and biological characterization plan to evaluate material characteristics and product functions
Collect data; evaluate and analyze results. Prepare test reports and technical documents about the findings for use by other scientists and requestors, such as sponsors and customers
Provide guidance for research assistants on various projects
Be a source of creative solutions for unmet needs in medicine, cosmetics, and agriculture. Few scientist have practical experience in all these fields, but we expect you to apply critical thought and develop an expertise, quickly familiarizing yourself with the technologies currently applied in the space.
Experience with applying ASTM and ISO standard would be advantageous
Qualifications:
PhD or MS in Biomaterials, Polymer Science, Chemistry, Material Science, Biochemistry, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field
At least 2 years of hands-on experience in a research or product development laboratory. Ability to perform careful and meticulous experimentation and work independently with limited direct supervision; must be accountable.
A strong, proven history of designing, synthesizing, and characterizing biomaterials, synthetic or natural polymers is a plus
Exceptional writing and communication skills. Experience with intellectual property and/or research grant writing is a plus.
Ability to handle chemicals, materials, and equipment safely. Performing experiments in accordance with lab protocol and company safety procedures.
