Construction Engineer Overview
- An entry-level engineering position in the heavy civil construction industry.
- Provide support and operational assistance to project teams through communication, surveying, quality control, and project administration
- Coordinate between teams in both office and jobsite settings
- Conduct engineering fieldwork for commercial developments, residential subdivisions, municipal roads, highways, and airports
- Perform laboratory testing to ensure projects meet design specifications
- Prepare project documents and requisitions for administrative review
Construction Engineer Tasks and Responsibilities
- Assist in resolving technical problems that arise during the construction process
- Participate in the research and development of new pavement materials
- Pursue continued education by achieving certifications in pavement design
- Engage in bidding process by discussing planning and engineering issues
- Maintain laboratory in compliance with quality control standards
- Perform testing of asphalt and concrete using TxDOT-specified procedures
- Participate in preliminary project schedules and requisitions for review
- Conduct field surveys and layouts of project sites
- Document jobsite progress with photo logs and field notes
- Prepare project estimates, submittals, and subcontracts for review
