Position Overview
The Optometric Technician plays a key role in supporting the optometrist by performing preliminary testing, preparing patients for exams, and ensuring smooth clinic flow. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a high-volume setting and enjoys working directly with patients.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet and escort patients to exam rooms in a friendly and professional manner
- Perform pre-testing procedures including:
- Visual acuity
- Auto-refraction
- Tonometry (IOP)
- Retinal imaging (OCT, fundus photography)
- Visual field testing
- Accurately document patient history and chief complaints
- Prepare exam rooms and maintain cleanliness and organization
- Assist the optometrist during exams as needed
- Educate patients on procedures and basic eye care instructions
- Manage patient flow to ensure efficiency and minimal wait times
- Support front desk or optical team when needed
Qualifications
- Prior experience in optometry or ophthalmology preferred (but willing to train the right candidate)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to multitask in a high-volume environment
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
- Basic computer proficiency (EHR experience a plus)
- Positive attitude and team-oriented mindset
Preferred Skills
- Experience with EHR systems
- Knowledge of medical terminology and vision insurance
- Familiarity with diagnostic equipment (OCT, autorefractor, visual field)
