Position Summary
The Small Engine Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining small engines, outdoor power equipment, and related machinery. This position ensures equipment is serviced to manufacturer standards, meets safety requirements, and is returned to customers in a timely and professional manner.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair small engines (gas and diesel), including but not limited to concrete mixers, saws, pumps, and other power equipment.
- Clean and inspect all rental equipment.
- Perform preventive maintenance, tune-ups, oil changes, and part replacements.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and fuel system issues.
- Test equipment after repair to ensure proper performance and safety.
- Order and replace parts as necessary; maintain accurate records of repairs and parts usage.
- Inform Service Manager regarding procedures and/or status of work.
- Follow manufacturer specifications and company repair procedures.
- Keep the work area organized, clean, and safe.
- Communicate with Service Manager and customers regarding repair status, costs, and recommendations.
- Assist in general warehouse operations as needed.
- Perform other job duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; vocational/technical certification in small engine repair preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in small engine repair, maintenance, or related field.
- Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams.
- Basic computer skills for repair documentation and parts ordering.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Ability to perform physical demands of the position.
Physical Demands
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds regularly and occasionally up to 75 pounds with assistance.
- Frequent standing, walking, kneeling, crouching, bending, and reaching (100% of the workday).
- Manual dexterity to handle tools, parts, and small engine components.
- Ability to work in varying conditions including exposure to noise, dust, fumes, and outdoor weather.
- Visual acuity sufficient to inspect parts and equipment, detect defects, and perform precision repairs.
- Hearing ability to diagnose equipment sounds and communicate effectively in a shop environment.
Work Environment
Work is primarily performed in a repair shop setting with regular exposure to machinery, tools, and equipment. May occasionally be required to perform field service at customer locations. Personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn as required (safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, etc.).

Pay: $23.00 - $26.00 per hour
