Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled 1st Shift Steel Welder to join our manufacturing team. This role involves performing high-quality welding operations on steel components, ensuring adherence to safety standards and technical specifications. The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in metal fabrication, blueprint interpretation, and various welding techniques to contribute to our production goals. Duties
- Execute welding operations using FCAW (Flux-Cored Arc Welding), MIG (Metal Inert Gas), TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas), and SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding) techniques on steel and sheet metal materials.
- Interpret technical drawings, schematics, and blueprints to accurately fabricate and assemble metal components according to specifications.
- Measure and mark materials precisely using calipers, micrometers, measuring instruments, and shop math to ensure proper fit-up.
- Operate fabrication shop equipment such as press brake machines, plasma cutters, and pipe threading tools for cutting, shaping, and assembling metal parts.
- Perform rigging, material handling with forklifts, and assembly tasks in accordance with safety protocols.
- Maintain quality standards by inspecting welds for defects and verifying dimensions with calipers and other measuring tools.
- Follow all safety procedures related to welding operations, equipment use, and construction site protocols.
- Collaborate with team members on fabrication projects involving ductwork, piping, or structural steel components.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by adhering to ASME codes & standards, AWS standards, and company quality guidelines.
Skills
- Proven experience in construction site environments with a solid understanding of safety practices.
- Proficiency in multiple welding techniques including FCAW, MIG, TIG, SMAW, and gas metal arc welding.
- Strong ability to read mechanical blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and interpret engineering schematics.
- Familiarity with measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and shop math for precise fabrication.
- Mechanical knowledge of metal materials, sheet metal fabrication, pipe threading, and ductwork assembly.
- Experience operating power tools like grinders, drills, press brake machines, plasma cutters, and hand tools safely.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings accurately while applying shop math for fabrication tasks.
- Knowledge of ASME codes & standards for manufacturing processes involving metal materials.
- Skilled in rigging techniques necessary for lifting heavy steel components safely on construction sites or in fabrication shops.
- Basic understanding of machining processes related to metal fabrication including plasma cutting and press brake operation.
- Familiarity with schematics related to mechanical systems or structural assemblies.
- Ability to work effectively within a team environment while maintaining high safety standards.
