The City of Durham’s Departmen52,146 t of Water Management (DWM) provides critical water and sewer services to the 309,000 plus residents of Durham. In order to deliver these services, more than 375 talented, dedicated employees work to keep safe drinking water flowing throughout the City and manage wastewater effectively. We lead long-term water and wastewater planning and infrastructure development, regularly treat and test systems for environmental compliance, and engage the public in water conservation to ensure all of our customers have clean, safe water every time they turn on the tap. Devoted to maintaining and repairing City property, vehicles, and roads. Provide specialized paraprofessional and skilled technical maintenance work that requires sufficient subject-matter knowledge and expertise in an assigned field to reconcile and verify the work of others; train others; serve as an escalation point for problem-solving; coordinate processes. Performs highly technical maintenance work or lead work crews performing basic and complex labor, equipment operation, construction, maintenance, and/or repair tasks. Responsible for ensuring daily activity logs and reports are correctly completed; assigning work; inspecting work; ensuring quality control; operating complex equipment; and performing the most complex of tasks related to the work assignment.
You can expect to cross train in the various workgroups within Water & Sewer Maintenance (listed below) in order to serve SBRD:
Meter Services: OSHA Competent Person, OSHA Trenching/Shoring, NC Grade A Water Distribution certification, NC Grade II Wastewater Collection, and AWWA Meter Technician certifications are preferred.-
Excavation: OSHA Competent Person, OSHA Trenching/Shoring, NC Grade C Water Distribution, and NC Grade II Wastewater Collections certifications may be preferred.

Distribution Systems Maintenance: OSHA Competent Person, OSHA Trenching/Shoring, NC Grade B Water Distribution certification, and NC Grade II Wastewater Collections certifications may be preferred.
