Position Overview
B & E Resources, LLC is seeking an experienced and hands-on HSE Professional to support safety, health, and environmental performance within the company’s structural fabrication shop. This position is responsible for promoting safe work practices, monitoring compliance with company HSE requirements, identifying and correcting hazards, and providing day-to-day safety support to shop leadership, supervisors, and employees.
The HSE Professional will maintain a visible presence on the shop floor and work closely with fabrication personnel to support safe execution of structural steel activities, including welding, cutting, grinding, material handling, crane and rigging operations, powered industrial equipment, and other shop activities. This role requires strong communication, sound judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to build credibility with craft employees while consistently reinforcing B&E safety expectations.
Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills are required to effectively support safety communication, training, and coaching across the shop workforce.
Key Responsibilities
Shop HSE Support & Field Presence
- Maintains an active and visible HSE presence throughout the structural fabrication shop and associated work areas.
- Observes work activities to verify compliance with company policies, safe work practices, job procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Identifies unsafe conditions and behaviors and works with supervisors and employees to implement timely corrective actions.
- Supports pre-job planning, Job Safety Analyses (JSAs/JHAs), hazard assessments, and task-specific safety requirements before work begins.
- Monitors fabrication activities involving welding, cutting, grinding, hot work, material handling, cranes, rigging, forklifts, aerial lifts, and other shop equipment.
- Verifies appropriate use, condition, and availability of required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Exercises stop-work authority when an imminent hazard or serious safety concern is identified and assists leadership with safe resolution.
Training, Communication & Safety Culture
- Conducts and supports new-hire safety orientations, toolbox talks, safety meetings, and task-specific training as assigned.
- Provides coaching and guidance to employees and supervisors regarding safe work practices, hazard recognition, and company HSE expectations.
- Communicates safety alerts, lessons learned, policy updates, and emerging risks to shop personnel.
- Promotes employee participation in safety programs, hazard reporting, near-miss reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Builds productive working relationships with shop supervision and craft personnel while maintaining consistent accountability for HSE requirements.
Inspections, Audits & Corrective Actions
- Performs routine shop inspections and safety audits and documents findings in accordance with company requirements.
- Tracks identified hazards, deficiencies, and corrective actions through completion and communicates recurring concerns to HSE and operations leadership.
- Assists with inspections of ladders, fall protection equipment, fire extinguishers, emergency equipment, lifting/rigging equipment, and other safety-related items as required.
- Supports housekeeping, access/egress, machine guarding, compressed gas cylinder storage, hot-work controls, and other shop safety programs.
- Participates in internal HSE assessments and supports customer or regulatory inspections when applicable.
Incident Prevention, Investigation & Reporting
- Responds to incidents, injuries, near misses, property damage events, and environmental concerns occurring within the shop.
- Assists with incident investigations, fact gathering, root cause analysis, corrective action development, and follow-up.
- Ensures incidents and near misses are reported promptly and documented in accordance with company procedures.
- Reviews trends in observations, incidents, and corrective actions to identify opportunities for risk reduction.
- Works with shop leadership to communicate lessons learned and implement preventive measures.
Regulatory Compliance & Documentation
- Supports compliance with applicable OSHA requirements, company HSE policies, customer requirements, and established safe work procedures.
- Maintains accurate HSE records, inspection documentation, training records, permits, and other required shop safety documentation.
- Supports programs related to hazard communication, respiratory protection, hearing conservation, lockout/tagout, hot work, fall protection, confined space, and emergency response as applicable to shop operations.
- Assists with maintaining Safety Data Sheets (SDS), chemical inventories, and hazard communication requirements.
- Supports environmental compliance activities related to waste handling, spill prevention, housekeeping, and proper storage of materials as assigned.
Emergency Preparedness & General Support
- Supports emergency response planning, drills, evacuation procedures, and readiness of emergency equipment.
- Coordinates with supervisors and HSE leadership regarding safety concerns, restricted-duty considerations, and return-to-work activities as appropriate.
- Participates in HSE meetings and provides shop safety performance information, observations, and recommendations to management.
- Assists with development and continuous improvement of shop-specific HSE procedures, forms, checklists, and training materials.
- Performs other HSE duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of three (3) years of HSE experience in structural steel fabrication, industrial construction, manufacturing, petrochemical, refinery, or a similar heavy industrial environment preferred.
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and practical application of industrial safety requirements in a fabrication or construction environment.
- Experience supporting welding/hot work, cranes and rigging, material handling, forklifts, aerial lifts, fall protection, lockout/tagout, and other high-risk industrial activities preferred.
- OSHA 30-hour Construction or General Industry certification preferred; additional safety credentials such as CHST, STS, ASP, CSP, or equivalent are a plus.
- Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification preferred.
- Ability to conduct safety observations, inspections, training, incident investigations, and corrective-action follow-up.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to maintain accurate electronic and written HSE records.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively with craft employees, supervisors, managers, and customers.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment, address unsafe conditions professionally, and maintain a consistent shop-floor presence in a fast-paced industrial environment.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish required. Must be able to effectively communicate safety requirements and conduct safety orientations, training, coaching, and incident interviews in both English and Spanish.
Work Environment
This position primarily supports B & E Resources’ structural fabrication shop and requires regular presence in active fabrication and material-handling areas. The role involves frequent walking and standing, exposure to typical industrial shop conditions including noise, heat, welding operations, moving equipment, and outdoor weather conditions, and the use of required personal protective equipment.
The HSE Professional must be able to move throughout the shop and yard, respond promptly to safety concerns and incidents, and work effectively with employees and supervisors across multiple work activities. Work schedules may occasionally require extended hours, early starts, or additional coverage based on production demands or special projects.
