Apprentice Job Description:
At Chimneys Plus, we are currently seeking to develop skilled and detail-oriented Maintenance Technician Apprentices specializing in chimney sweeping, inspections, gas fireplace diagnosis, repairs, maintenance, and sales. As an apprentice, you will train to become a Maintenance Technician working in ensuring the safety, functionality, and optimal performance of chimneys and fireplace systems through maintenance and sales solutions.
Training Phases:
Apprentices go through a phased training approach in order to become trustworthy and skilled technicians. The first step is to work with our installation and repair crews in order to become familiar with the work that maintenance technicians estimate. Once this phase is completed satisfactorily, apprentices work alongside Maintenance Technicians to learn the ins and outs of the role. In addition to working alongside install and repair crews and maintenance technicians, online course training is provided to learn in-depth industry knowledge. The final phase of the training includes a requirement to obtain an industry certification. How long each phase takes depends on the performance of the individual apprentice and business needs. The entire training process is estimated to take 1-2 years.
Maintenance Technician Responsibilities:
- Perform thorough chimney sweeping and inspections to identify potential issues, such as creosote buildup, blockages, structural damage, or deficiencies against construction standards.
- Accurately and efficiently estimate recommended repairs and new appliances and systems.
- Conduct detailed gas fireplace diagnosis to identify and troubleshoot any mechanical or performance-related problems.
- Carry out repairs and maintenance tasks on gas fireplaces, including but not limited to fixing ignition systems, replacing faulty components, and ensuring proper ventilation.
- Collaborate with customers to clearly communicate project expectations, provide updates, and address any concerns throughout the maintenance process.
- Coordinate efforts with team members, customers, and vendors to fulfill non-standard maintenance needs efficiently.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including documentation of inspections, repairs, and customer interactions.
- Inspection form and process updates and improvements
- Follow all company safety policies

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
- Work environment may vary, including company vehicles, customer premises, construction sites, and occasional office work.
- Ability to work in crawl spaces, climb ladders, and access roofs and chimney tops regularly.
- Safety training and personal protective equipment (PPE) are required for on-site work.
- Lifting of up to 25-75 pounds or more may be required.
- Must have a valid driver's license and be able to travel to and from job sites.
