Overview:
As an Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA), you will play a key role in providing advanced chairside assistance to dentists and contributing to the delivery of high-quality dental care. This position involves expanded clinical responsibilities beyond traditional dental assisting, requiring a combination of skill, precision, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of patient care.
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct chairside assistance to dentists during a variety of dental procedures, including restorative work, extractions, and other advanced treatments.

Ensure the efficient workflow in the dental operatory.

Perform expanded functions related to restorative dentistry, such as placing and contouring amalgam and/or composite fillings under the direction of the dentist.

Assist in the fabrication and placement of temporary crowns and bridges.

Take and process dental X-rays as required by the treatment plan.

Ensure compliance with radiation safety protocols.

Take impressions for study casts and other dental models.

Fabricate and trim models as needed for various dental procedures.

Educate patients on oral hygiene practices, post-operative care, and preventive measures.

Answer patient questions and address concerns related to dental procedures.

Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including charting treatments, procedures performed, and other relevant information.

Ensure compliance with record-keeping regulations.
Qualifications:
- Completion of an accredited dental assisting program.

Certification as an Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) in accordance with state regulations.

Compliance with any additional state-specific requirements for expanded functions.

Certification in dental radiography, with the ability to take and process dental X-rays.

Proficiency in performing expanded functions, including restorative procedures, impressions, and orthodontic assistance.

Familiarity with relevant dental instruments and equipment.

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

Ability to effectively communicate with patients and the dental team.

Ability to work collaboratively with dentists, hygienists, and other team members.
