This position is for a lead medical assistant whose responsibility is to work collaboratively with the clinical supervisor and director of medical practices to optimize functions of the practice and provide direct care to patients receiving therapeutic and diagnostic services. This position reports to the Clinical Supervisor.
Demonstrates a working knowledge of and/or location of organizational policies and procedures as well as adheres to them.
Exhibits a working knowledge of information management, confidentiality, patient/resident safety, corporate compliance and infection prevention.
Possesses knowledge of reporting errors or near misses without fear or blame/punishment for reporting accidents/incidents. Addresses and reports problems as they arise.
Completes required competencies, licensure, certification and registration recertification in a timely manner, as well as participates in continuing education.
Arrives to work on time, on scheduled days, during scheduled hours. Maintains flexibility with work schedule in meeting the needs of the department.
Provides age specific care demonstrating knowledge of growth and development, system assessment and developing an interdisciplinary plan of care addressing culture, religion and ethnic preferences.
Attends required departmental meetings and in-services.
Utilizes equipment and materials in a cost effective manner.
Participates in performance improvement activities.
Serves as a preceptor in orienting and/or training new personnel.
Follows chain of command whenever issues or problems arise which are beyond scope of practice.
Performs essential job functions in an acceptable quantity and quality.
Collects patient assessment data as delegated by the physician within timeframe specified by protocol.
Assesses patient for basic needs and contributes to the initial assessment and ongoing assessment of patients.
Works with office coordinator to ensure the scheduling/coordination of surgical procedures for patients, in conjunction with the operating team. Including but not limited to scheduling, obtaining pre-op clearance and sending patient packet to OR team is completed.
Ensures patient pre-operative and post-operative appointments are correctly scheduled.
Communicates and documents pertinent information.
Completes tasks in a timely manner.
Utilizes a multi-disciplinary approach, to include other agencies, to plan for patient care.
Utilizes an interactive teaching-learning process for patient education.
Measures and documents accurately all vital signs, intake & output, diets, weights with in specific time frame.
Ensures pre-certifications. Authorizations and/or referrals as required by insurance protocols are obtained.
Completes all required referrals for high risk patients or otherwise if applicable.
Maintains log of high risk patients
Works with providers and staff to address critical test results as soon as possible.
Provides clerical support as needed, including assisting and performing job duties of MOR’s
Handles, labels, stores and delivers specimens as specified by protocol.
Administers medications and solutions in a safe timely manner.
Inventories medications, supplies and solutions for expiration dates and maintains required logs, including samples if applicable.
Maintains quality control logs as outlined per provider specialty.
Notifies patients regarding test results as directed by provider.
Orders all department supplies.
Act as the primary resource for the practice to assist patients with needs, with a goal of achieving one call resolution.
Assist provider with all procedures, as needed.
Covers staffing deficits.
Responsible for the training of all new medical assistants.
Maintains and regularly updates department training manual
Performs other duties as required and assigned based on operational needs.
