Overall Objective:
The Claims Manager will be responsible for managing all aspects of the Cargo claim process, to work with Management, outside agencies and Navajo personnel to minimize and expedite the settlement of all claims in the most cost effective manner. Management of the in the claims department to insure customers and drivers are being given direction in a timely manner.
Working Relationship:
Direct reporting to Director of Operations
Responsibilities:
- Investigation and settlement of claims, process the initial report of an OS&D.
- Communication with customers on issues that happen on shipments.
- Negotiate the customer a resolution based on return of freight, subrogation or salvage.
- Process payment of Claims through the A.P. department.
- Develop Claim prevention program, and educate other employees.
- Subrogate claims against other carriers when necessary.
- Develop a working relationship with salvage buyers and secondary markets to minimize claim expenses.
- Develop a working relationship with Navajo insurance carriers and Attorneys
- Train all Expedited employees that handle claim issues (fleet managers, night dispatch, etc.)
- Communicate to Expedited employees issues of claim prevention through company newsletter.
- Expedite resolution of ongoing claim issues so that drivers delay time is minimized.
- Investigate accidents and assign adjusters to losses involving cargo
- Assist in retraining of drivers on OS&D policies and procedures
- Notification to Payroll of any money due the company from a terminated driver.
- Run trending reports of type of claims and cost.
- Instruct new hires on OS&D policies and procedures during orientation classes.
Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
· Experience with Bills of Lading
· Organized filing
· Contract interpretation & understanding
· Excellent organization skills
· Ability to meet tight deadlines
· Ability to make decisions
· Refrigerated freight experience is preferred
· 2+ years of supervisory experience
· Work with spreadsheets
Education or Training:
· OS&D Claims Management Training
· High school graduate (minimum)
Working Conditions:
· Hours of sitting
· Phone work
· Bending & stooping while filing
· Climbing in and out of a Semi-Trailer to inspect damaged freight
· Limited lifting of boxes of freight for inspection

Pay: $45,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
