The Inclusive Bean is a nonprofit coffee shop with a mission to expand access to meaningful employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities through accessible job opportunities, skill building, and community connections. We are looking for a dependable, energetic, and compassionate Barista to join our team and help create a welcoming environment for both our customers and our employees.
This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, can juggle multiple responsibilities at once, and enjoys working as part of a diverse and inclusive team. Our Baristas are responsible not only for delivering excellent customer service and quality beverages, but also for helping maintain a supportive, productive workplace where all team members can be successful.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and serve coffee, espresso beverages, teas, smoothies, and other menu items according to established recipes and standards.
- Provide friendly, professional, and welcoming customer service.
- Operate the point-of-sale system, accurately process transactions, and handle cash.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked café environment.
- Multitask effectively during busy periods while maintaining accuracy and a positive attitude.
- Work calmly and efficiently under pressure during high-volume service.
- Communicate clearly and respectfully with coworkers, customers, volunteers, and supervisors.
- Provide day-to-day support, encouragement, and guidance to team members as needed to help ensure a successful and productive shift.
- Demonstrate patience, flexibility, and a willingness to adapt communication and support based on individual team members' needs.
- Help team members learn and practice workplace skills, routines, and customer service expectations.
- Promote teamwork and contribute to a positive, respectful, and inclusive workplace culture.
- Follow all food safety, sanitation, safety, and operational procedures.
- Complete opening, closing, cleaning, stocking, and other assigned café duties.
- Be willing to learn, take direction, receive feedback, and assist wherever needed.
Qualifications
- Previous barista, coffee shop, restaurant, retail, or customer service experience preferred.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong multitasking and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Reliable, dependable, and punctual.
- Patient, flexible, and comfortable working with individuals with a variety of abilities and communication styles.
- Ability to provide respectful coaching, redirection, and support when needed.
- Positive attitude and strong team-oriented mindset.
- Ability to remain calm and professional during busy or challenging situations.
- Willingness to learn and follow established procedures and recipes.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform the physical requirements of a café environment.
