Description: Carroll College invites applications for a full-time, 12-month, non-tenure-track faculty position to serve as the Founding Director of the Master of Educational Leadership Program. This is an exciting leadership opportunity to develop, launch, and lead a fully online, asynchronous graduate program designed to prepare experienced educators and professionals for leadership roles in schools, districts, educational organizations, and policy settings.
Reporting to the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Director will collaborate across campus and with external partners to design curriculum, oversee online course delivery, recruit and support faculty, advance student success, coordinate assessment efforts, and ensure the program remains responsive to the needs of schools, districts, and education professionals. The successful candidate is expected to maintain a consistent physical presence on campus to fulfill teaching, service, and institutional responsibilities.
As the inaugural leader of the program, the successful candidate will play a critical role in creating a mission-aligned graduate offering that prepares ethical, effective, and service-oriented educational leaders. The position requires creativity, initiative, organization, and a collaborative leadership style to establish the program's academic foundation and support its long-term growth and success. The goal is to enroll the program's first cohort in Fall 2027.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The Founding Director will lead the development of the Master of Educational Leadership curriculum, program policies, and supporting materials for review and approval through the College's shared governance processes. The Director will design a curriculum that serves both aspiring and current educational leaders while creating opportunities for future specialization and program expansion.
Working closely with instructional designers and academic partners, the Director will ensure the development and delivery of high-quality online, asynchronous courses that reflect best practices in graduate education. The Director will also ensure curriculum alignment with relevant leadership standards, state requirements, workforce needs, and Carroll College's mission.
The Director will recruit, supervise, mentor, and support adjunct faculty with expertise in educational leadership, administration, policy, curriculum, assessment, and related fields. Teaching graduate-level courses within the program will be expected as appropriate.
In partnership with Enrollment Management, Marketing, and Academic Affairs, the Director will support student recruitment, admissions, retention, and student success initiatives. The Director will cultivate and maintain partnerships with schools, districts, educational organizations, and community stakeholders to strengthen the program's visibility, relevance, and impact.
Additional responsibilities include coordinating program assessment activities, preparing accreditation-related reports when applicable, overseeing continuous improvement initiatives, advising and mentoring students, managing program budgets and resources, and representing the program both internally and externally. The Director will also perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications: The successful candidate will have a graduate degree in Education, Educational Leadership, School Administration, Curriculum and Instruction, or a closely related field. Applicants should demonstrate professional experience in K–12 education, higher education, educational leadership, school administration, or a related area of practice. Experience with curriculum development and program-level assessment of student learning outcomes is required, as is experience with online teaching and learning.
Preferred Qualifications: A terminal degree in Education, Educational Leadership, School Administration, Curriculum and Instruction, or a closely related field is preferred. Additional preferred qualifications include experience serving as a school principal, district administrator, instructional leader, or higher education program leader.
Candidates with knowledge of Montana educator preparation requirements, licensure pathways, and school leadership standards are particularly encouraged to apply. Experience developing, launching, or leading graduate academic programs, as well as experience recruiting, mentoring, and supervising adjunct faculty, is highly desirable.
The ideal candidate will also demonstrate familiarity with online graduate education and the needs of adult learners and have experience designing and delivering instruction using Moodle or a comparable learning management system.
