The Family Place PCS (TFPPCS) mission is to improve the literacy and workplace skills of adults who want to learn English, and improve their income and careers so that they and their families can have a better life, find employment, and become more active in their community.
Job Summary
TFPPCS offers the Foundations of (Spanish) Literacy program in partnership with the Mexican Embassy’s Consular Section and the Mexican National Institute of Adult Education (Plaza Comunitaria), allowing participants to complete their education in Spanish from elementary to secondary levels.
The Part-time Foundations of Literacy Instructional Assistant supports the lead instructor through in-class assistance, one-on-one tutoring, occasional subbing, and collaboration with the academic team.
Instructional Responsibilities
▪ Assist the lead Foundations of Literacy Instructor in teaching a multilevel Spanish literacy class Monday through Thursday evenings, from 6:00 – 8:45 pm
▪ Tutor individuals or small groups in core academic subjects to prepare students for module post-tests.
▪ Provide targeted academic interventions to address students' specific learning challenges.
▪ Identify and address real-time classroom needs to support smooth daily operations.
▪ Assist the lead Instructor with classroom management, copying, lesson planning, and other instructional tasks.
▪ Assist the Lead Technology Instructor during technology instruction.
▪ Substitute teach the class as needed.
▪ Proctor diagnostic or module post-tests.
Reporting/Administrative Responsibilities
· Assist the lead FOL Instructor with maintaining accurate and complete student records in QuickBase in compliance with school policies on attendance, absenteeism, and referrals.
o Record each student's daily attendance and instructional hours.
o Follow up on student absences and refer chronic absences to case management, the CAO, and/or registration.
· Use the class WhatsApp group to communicate with students daily.
· Attend monthly staff and academic team meetings, if available.
Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Successful candidates will possess the following qualifications:
▪ B.A., B.S. in Education, or related field
▪ Previous experience teaching adult immigrant students
▪ Previous experience teaching or tutoring Spanish
▪ Native-like oral and written communication skills in Spanish
▪ Proficiency with Google Workspace
▪ Experience with virtual instruction and tools preferred
▪ Strong digital literacy and technology skills
▪ U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or work permit
▪ Available for the entire school year (Sept – June)
Reports to: Chief Academic Officer
Salary:
· Hourly rate, depending on experience

Physical Requirements:
● Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
● Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
Hours: Part time; Mondays – Thursdays from 6:00 – 8:45 pm, (10 – 12 hours per week).
