The agency is seeking a talented and skilled Division Chief for the Youth and Countywide Sports Division within the Department of Parks and Recreation. The Youth and Countywide Sports Division focuses on providing sports opportunities for county residents and establishing a convenient, streamlined one-stop shop for all youth sports programs in the county. The division is dedicated to creating healthy communities by increasing the health and wellness benefits available through its programming and making it easier for athletes of all ages to engage in sports. A primary objective of this division is to contribute to healthy youth by providing a seamless sports experience for children and teens and connecting parents and coaches with opportunities to engage in diverse skill building and competitive programs.
- Develops, recommends, and implements goals and objectives for countywide youth and adult sports programs, operations, and partnerships.

Works internally with Parks and Recreation staff and externally with stakeholders, such as Prince George’s County Executive’s Office, Prince George's County Council, Prince George’s County Public Schools and youth and athletic organizations to develop program and service priorities.

Develops and updates policies and procedures for programs and partnership operations and monitors compliance with established standards.

Creates a framework for evaluating program outcomes; collects and analyzes data related to such things as program participants and park/facility utilization.

Serves as a liaison between department leadership and state and local leaders, community groups, and the public to communicate new policies and procedures and best practices for countywide sports.

Stays informed on trends affecting youth and adult sports.

Oversees the hiring, promotion, training, and development of division employees; works with the management team to address non-performance issues.

Prepares and manages the division budget; controls expenditures in accordance with the approved budget.

Establishes clear expectations for staff, sets performance standards and ensures regular performance feedback for employees.

Represents the division in a wide variety of forums devoted to youth sports in the County.

Demonstrates effective leadership by promoting professional growth, innovation, empowerment, and accountability.

Responsible for employee lifecycle i.e. engagement, recruitment, onboarding, retention, development and separation.

Establishes annual goals for direct reports. Initiates disciplinary actions, approves timecards and leaves requests.

Plans, schedules, and assigns work for special activities.
Works in office. Considerable pressure to meet deadlines. May work evenings, weekends and holidays which may exceed the normal work week. On call 24 hours a day and seven days per week. Handles citizen inquiries; communicates and exchanges information with the public, town officials and volunteer organizations. Resolves complaints and disputes. Responds to emergency situations as required (e.g., repairs, security, scheduling). Depending on assignment, regular attendance at outdoor programs and activities required.
- Bachelor's Degree in Parks, Recreation, Public Administration, Engineering, Business Administration or any related field.

Eight (8) years of experience in Park and Recreation or Public administration/management that relates to the functional area of assignment (e.g., enterprise, interpretation, conservation, horticulture, recreation and leisure services, forestry, maintenance and development) and includes four (4) years at a supervisory level.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total twelve (12) years.

Valid driver's license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations. Driver’s license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions, or points that could limit the employee’s ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving duties required by the position of assignment.
