Role Overview
BEPC Inc. is seeking a detail-oriented Laboratory Specimen Processor to support a client laboratory by processing and preparing specimens for confirmatory testing. This position plays a critical role in maintaining specimen integrity, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and supporting laboratory operations in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, and committed to maintaining quality and accuracy while adhering to strict laboratory and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Remove presumptive positive specimens and prepare aliquots for confirmatory testing in accordance with SAMHSA Mandatory Guidelines and other applicable regulatory standards.
- Organize and arrange aliquoted specimens for efficient processing and testing.
- Store positive specimens appropriately in designated refrigerator and freezer storage areas.
- Receive, inspect, and open incoming specimens delivered to the laboratory for analysis.
- Review specimen acceptability, verify chain of custody documentation, and ensure all required records are complete and accurate.
- Maintain accurate documentation throughout the specimen handling process.
- Destroy specimens in accordance with established laboratory procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Clean and maintain the laboratory work area on a daily basis while following established safety protocols.
- Adhere to laboratory security procedures, quality standards, and company policies to ensure specimen integrity and confidentiality.
- Support overall laboratory operations while maintaining productivity, accuracy, and compliance.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree in a scientific field preferred.
- Previous laboratory, specimen processing, accessioning, or healthcare experience preferred.
- Familiarity with chain of custody procedures and regulated laboratory environments is a plus.
- Knowledge of SAMHSA guidelines or other regulated testing environments is preferred.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and documentation skills.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced laboratory environment while maintaining accuracy.
- Basic computer skills and the ability to follow written procedures and laboratory protocols.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift or move laboratory materials as needed.
