Job Summary:
The City of Ellsworth is seeking a dependable and safety-conscious individual to join our Public Works Department as a Transfer Station Attendant. This role is essential in ensuring the efficient and environmentally responsible operation of our solid waste and recycling facility. Salary:
Starting pay is $20.00 per hour. A higher starting rate may be considered for candidates with substantial directly related experience or exceptional qualifications.

Key Responsibilities:
· Assist residents and commercial users with the proper disposal and recycling of materials.
· Operate and maintain equipment such as compactors, balers, and forklifts.
· Monitor incoming loads for prohibited or hazardous materials and ensure compliance with disposal regulations.
· Maintain cleanliness and appearance of the facility, including snow removal, weed-whacking, paint touch-ups, and general facility and grounds maintenance.
· Provide excellent customer service by answering questions and guiding users through facility procedures.
· Maintain accurate operational and financial records, including processing payments, selling trash stickers, and completing daily cash reconciliation.
· Perform routine maintenance checks on equipment and report any issues promptly.
Preferred Qualifications:
· High school diploma or equivalent.
· Valid Maine driver’s license with a clean driving record.
· Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 50 pounds and working in various weather conditions.
· Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to providing excellent customer service.
· Experience with solid waste operations, recycling practices, or transfer station operations is preferred.

· Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
· Ability to learn and use facility-specific software and digital record-keeping systems.

· Basic math skills for handling cash transactions and completing records.
· Attention to detail and accuracy in completing daily logs and inspection checklists.
Work Environment:
This position requires working outdoors in all weather conditions and involves exposure to noise, dust, and odors associated with waste disposal. The role includes standing for extended periods, lifting materials, operating equipment, and interacting with the public throughout the day.
