Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and energetic Activities Assistant to join our team in providing engaging and meaningful recreational activities for residents in assisted living and memory care settings. The ideal candidate will have a passion for enhancing the quality of life for seniors, especially those with Alzheimer's, dementia, or other cognitive impairments. This role involves planning, coordinating, and facilitating a variety of social, recreational, and therapeutic activities tailored to residents’ needs, promoting socialization, mental stimulation, and overall well-being. Experience in senior care, recreational therapy, or caregiving is highly valued to ensure a supportive environment that fosters independence and dignity.
Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and execute a diverse range of recreational activities including arts and crafts, music therapy, games, outings, and special events that cater to residents’ interests and abilities.
- Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) as needed, ensuring safety and comfort during participation.
- Collaborate with nursing staff and other care team members to develop activity plans that support residents’ cognitive and physical health goals.
- Manage activity schedules efficiently to ensure timely delivery of programs while accommodating individual preferences and needs.
- Foster an inclusive environment by working with individuals with disabilities or special needs, including those with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia.
- Provide emotional support and companionship to residents during activities to promote social interaction and reduce feelings of isolation.
- Maintain accurate records of resident participation and progress in activities; report any concerns or changes in residents’ condition to the appropriate staff.
- Stay informed about best practices in senior care, dementia care, and recreational therapy to continually improve program offerings.
Experience
- Prior experience in assisted living facilities or nursing homes is preferred.
- Knowledge of Alzheimer's care, memory care, dementia care, or long-term care environments is highly desirable.
- Experience working with seniors or individuals with disabilities through caregiving or home & community care roles is beneficial.
- Background in event planning or recreational therapy enhances ability to create engaging programs.
- Strong communication skills are essential for interacting effectively with residents, families, and team members.
- Familiarity with assisting residents with ADLs and managing schedules is advantageous.
- Experience counseling on aging issues or providing social work support adds value to the role.
