The Village of Lomira (population 2,701) is seeking applicants for the position of Director of Public Works. This full-time position will work closely with our current Director of Public Works, who is transferring to a different position in the Village as the Director of Utilities. This position involves a wide variety of tasks associated with the construction, operation, and maintenance of public facilities, including streets, sanitation, parks, water supply, and wastewater; supervisory, administrative, and field tasks are expected. Previous experience working for a municipality preferred. Applicants must possess a Class “B” commercial driver’s license and are responsible for supervising the overall efficient and effective operations of the Village Public Works team, parks, and all-encompassing Village properties, facilities, and equipment. This person is overall responsible for the well-being of the Village property and maintenance and reports to the Village Board and Administrator.
The Public Works Director oversees a crew of three and will work in tandem with the Director of Utilities, be on-call rotating weekends, snow plowing, planning and inspecting construction projects, purchasing materials and supplies, responding to alarms or emergent needs, and completing special projects. An associate’s degree in civil engineering and/or a minimum of 5 years’ work experience in related duties and functions, management experience, strong record-keeping, and communication skills are required. Operation of heavy equipment and equipment repair, Auto-Cad drafting, and GIS experience are preferred. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills and knowledge in municipal budgets and village government regulations and rules. This position requires self-motivation and the ability to work and communicate with other departments and the public.
