About the Role
Fortune Logistics is a full truckload freight brokerage in Sioux Falls moving reefer and dry van freight for food and consumer goods shippers across the country. We are hiring a Brokerage Operations/Carrier Sales Specialist to lead our brokerage floor.
This is a hands-on leadership seat, not a corner office. You will be on the floor listening to calls, coaching negotiations, rebuilding the systems the team runs on, and stepping in on the hard loads when it counts. Today that means leading a team of brokers + support staff. As we grow, it means building the bench and the playbook that lets us scale without breaking service.

What You Will Own
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of full truckload brokers covering reefer and dry van freight
- Run a daily and weekly performance rhythm: coverage percentage, margin per load, load count, on-time pickup and delivery, carrier retention
- Build, document, and enforce the SOPs and playbooks for quoting, carrier sourcing, tendering, tracking, and problem loads
- Coach brokers off price-only selling. Hard freight (multi-stop, tight delivery windows, rural pickups) gets covered by selling the reload, the destination market, and the relationship, not by winning a price war and hanging up
- Own carrier development: deepen the core carrier base, reduce load board dependence on repeat lanes, and hold carriers accountable to service standards
- Train new brokers from day one through full ramp, and set the standard for what good looks like on this floor
- Partner with ownership and sales on lane strategy, pricing discipline, and capacity before freight gets committed
- Own escalations end to end: service failures, temperature claims, detention disputes, and customer recovery
- Interview, hire, and build the team as the brokerage grows
What We Are Looking For
- 5+ years of experience in full truckload freight brokerage, with hands-on reefer and dry van experience
- A track record you can walk us through in detail: margin, coverage, retention, and the people you promoted
- Strong working knowledge of a TMS (McLeod, Turvo, Tai, Aljex, or similar) and the tools of the trade (DAT, Truckstop, Highway, Carrier411, tracking platforms)
- A builder, not just a firefighter. You write the process, you train it, and you inspect it
- Direct, competitive, and coachable. You take feedback as well as you give it
- The judgment to make the call on a live load without escalating everything, and the discipline to document why
- You currently live in the Sioux Falls metro area, or you can relocate here on your own before your start date. This role is fully on-site.
Schedule
Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, on-site in Sioux Falls.
Freight does not stop at 5:00 on Friday. You will be available to support your team on weekends when loads are in transit and something needs a decision. We plan for it, we share it, and we do not pretend it does not exist.
Compensation and Benefits
Base salary: $65,000 - $90,000, depending on experience.
