Overview:
The Driver & Utility Hand will be responsible for making deliveries and pick-ups in a company truck primarily within New England to help the company meet deadlines. When not on the road completing deliveries and pick-ups, the Driver & Utility Hand will also help in the shop where needed with assembly work, shipping/receiving, and possible fabrication. The Driver & Utility Hand will have the opportunity to learn new skills while assisting in the shop such as machine operations and welding.
Essential duties include, but are not limited to:
- Secure loads safely and deliver and pick-up products around New England.
- Follow all applicable road laws.
- Provide customer service during deliveries/pick-ups and be the face of Novia.
- Manage proof of delivery paperwork from customers and vendors.
- Assist with vehicle maintenance where able to (fueling, washing, fluids)
- Maintain appropriate driving records and/or logs as required.
- Assist with shipping/receiving, palletizing, and packaging of products.
- Aid with general assembly in fabrication department as needed.
- Safely cut, grind, and drill metal and wood components using hand and power tools.
- Assist with insulation and wrapping of curbs.
- It is essential to be focused on safety at all times regardless of where working for the day.
Qualifications:
- Experience driving a flatbed or box truck (22’ minimum) and securing loads.
- Ability to drive manual transmission.
- 3 years experience operating vehicles requiring a DOT medical card preferred.
- Ability to obtain a DOT medical card or have presently.
- Mechanical aptitude. MUST be able to read a measuring tape.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Clean driving record.
- 3 years experience with fork trucks, pallet jacks, securing loads, and loading vehicles is preferred.
- Construction/fabrication background a plus.
- Has the desire to learn new skills within a fabrication shop setting, such as machine operations and welding.
