Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Special Education Paraprofessional to join our dynamic educational team. In this vital role, you will support students with diverse learning needs, including those with developmental disabilities, autism, and other special needs. Your enthusiasm and commitment will help foster an inclusive classroom environment where every student can thrive. You will work closely with teachers, therapists, and families to implement individualized education plans (IEPs), assist with classroom management, and promote positive behavior and literacy development. Duties
- Assist classroom teachers in implementing lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards, including literacy, math, and early childhood education strategies such as Montessori and preschool methods
- Support students with disabilities by adapting instructional materials and activities to meet their unique needs, including those requiring Deaf education or working with individuals who have autism or developmental disabilities
- Help manage classroom behavior through effective behavior management techniques and positive reinforcement strategies
- Provide one-on-one support for students during lessons, activities, and transitions to ensure engagement and success
- Use communication skills such as American Sign Language (ASL) when necessary to facilitate effective interaction with students who are deaf or hard of hearing
- Assist with the development and implementation of individualized education plans (IEPs) by documenting progress and communicating with teachers and specialists
- Support classroom organization, including lesson planning, curriculum development, and maintaining a safe learning environment for children from toddler care through preschool age
- Contribute to a nurturing atmosphere by providing childcare support, promoting social-emotional growth, and fostering independence among young learners
Qualifications
- Prior experience working with children in early childhood settings or classrooms is highly preferred
- Knowledge of childhood development principles and classroom management techniques
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities, including autism spectrum disorder or developmental delays
- Familiarity with special education practices such as IEP implementation and behavior management strategies
- Proficiency in literacy education, math instruction, and curriculum development for young children
- Ability to communicate effectively using verbal skills and American Sign Language (ASL) if applicable
- Childcare or preschool experience, including Montessori or private school environments is advantageous
- Demonstrated patience, adaptability, and enthusiasm for supporting diverse learners in inclusive settings
