JOB
This position is responsible for performing basic automotive services including oil changes, tire repairs and balancing, lubing, vehicle inspections, and other preventative maintenance services for Walworth County’s Fleet. Responsibilities also include providing backup to the Fleet Inventory Specialist with ordering and inventory of parts, preparing surplus items for sale, fuel dispensing system maintenance, and entering data into the countywide asset management database.

Position FTE: 1.00 full-time, hourly non-exempt EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

Perform heavy and light equipment lubrication, brake replacement, tire replacement, hydraulic hose repairs, and small engine maintenance, as well as perform general service maintenance on lawn mowers, lawn tractors, lawn sweepers, snow blowers, snowplows, power washers, and a variety of small gas-powered landscape equipment.
Perform repairs and diagnostics on light trucks and automobiles.
Take responsibility for preventive maintenance performed on the County Fleet, which at times may include heavy equipment.
Communicate with the Fleet Foreman regarding fleet-related issues. Respond promptly to department requests for service through the work order system.
Receive and follow maintenance schedules and instructions from the Fleet Foreman.
Assist the Fleet Inventory Specialist and perform assigned duties when absent.
Perform welding and repair services as needed.
Set the hoist to lift vehicles always using proper lift points so no damage is done to the vehicle.
Check fluid levels and tire pressures, and install required decals and accessories as needed.
Remove any decals and accessories that are not designated to remain with vehicles or equipment slated for surplus or scrap.
Dismount and mount tires.
Examine damaged, defective or flat tires to determine the feasibility of repairs.
Repair auto, light truck, and industrial tires.
Rotate tires on vehicles using the recommended rotation pattern and procedure.
Install tire/rim assembly back on vehicle, tightening lug nuts with torque sticks or torque wrench to manufacturer specifications.
Use a computerized wheel balancing machine to balance tire and wheel assemblies.
Perform minor automotive repairs and adjustments, such as lubrication of vehicles, changing oil and replacement of defective accessories.
Inspect all tire casings removed during the workday, making appropriate designation as to used versus scrap tires. Take used tires to the designated area in the store.
Receive and inventory tires. Determine the proper storage location based on size, tire code, and tire type, and place the tire on the rack with the label facing out and upright.
Perform basic replacement of failed lighting components and batteries.
Plan and schedule preventative maintenance services.
Perform oil sampling procedures.
Report repair or replacement needs to the Fleet Foreman.
Gather information from a walk-around inspection and report to the Fleet Foreman.
Communicate orally and in writing, information regarding equipment condition, problems and recommendations.
Perform unscheduled maintenance.
Requisition materials and supplies for all maintenance activities.
Prepare and maintain records and reports.
Perform related work as assigned.
Participate and attend in-service educational classes and on-the-job training programs, etc. as scheduled. Seek Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification and other qualifications to improve vehicle maintenance skills, knowledge and abilities.
Input and retrieve data using a computerized database.
Demonstrate a commitment to county safety and risk management efforts.
Work overtime as needed.
