OTSI (Object Technology Solutions, Inc) has an immediate opening for Engineering Technician
Engineering Technician (onsite Role)
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITES:
The role emphasizes hands-on technical expertise in BGA rework and fine‑pitch soldering alongside strong lab management, organization, and communication skills, with relevant experience preferred over formal education.
We are seeking an experienced Lab Manager with a strong focus on lab management, expert-level soldering (particularly BGA rework and reballing), and basic bench setup and testing. This full-time contract role requires someone who takes ownership of their work and can demonstrate a proven track record running a lab. The ideal candidate brings structure, accountability, and hands-on technical excellence — keeping the lab organized and operational while performing precision rework and standing up basic test benches to support engineering. Strong communication skills are essential, as this role coordinates daily with engineering teams.
This role centers on three pillars:
Lab Management — owning the organization, equipment, inventory, calibration, and safety of the lab
Soldering & Rework — expert BGA rework, reballing, and fine-pitch hand soldering
Basic Bench Setup & Testing — configuring test benches and running basic functional checks to support engineering
Schedule: 8 hours per day, 5 days per week (40 hours/week)
Lab Management (primary focus)
Manage day-to-day lab operations, including equipment, inventory, and workspace organization
Establish and enforce lab organization standards and procedures
Track inventory of components, consumables, and equipment
Maintain lab equipment, tools, and workstations in optimal condition, including calibration and routine maintenance
Take ownership of lab cleanliness, safety, and efficiency
Coordinate with engineering teams to prioritize lab tasks and support project timelines
Soldering & Rework
Perform precision soldering and rework tasks, including:
BGA (Ball Grid Array) rework and replacement
BGA reballing operations
Fine-pitch component soldering and rework
Basic Bench Setup & Testing
Set up and configure test benches and equipment for engineering tasks
Perform basic functional and bring-up testing on hardware
Connect, power, and verify boards and equipment, and capture results
Document lab processes, procedures, test setups, and work completed
Required Qualifications
Demonstrated lab management experience with specific examples of previous lab oversight roles — this is the core of the role
Expert soldering and rework skills, specifically:
BGA rework (removal and replacement)
BGA reballing techniques
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Must be able to demonstrate skills during a practical assessment following virtual screening
Basic bench setup and testing capability — comfortable configuring test equipment and performing basic functional/bring-up checks on hardware
Strong communication skills — able to coordinate clearly with engineering teams, surface issues early, and document work so others can follow it
Strong organizational abilities with attention to detail and a systematic approach
Proven job history showing stability and progression in similar roles (this is not an entry-level position)
Ability to take ownership and work independently with minimal supervision
Preferred:
Direct, succinct communication — gets to the point clearly and keeps stakeholders informed without unnecessary back-and-forth
Linux system experience (the more experience, the better)
Proficiency with rework stations (hot air, IR, etc.) and reballing equipment
Familiarity with common bench test equipment (power supplies, multimeters, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers)
Experience with lab inventory management systems
IPC certification (IPC-7711/7721 or similar) for rework and repair
Practical Demonstration: Candidates must demonstrate BGA rework and reballing skills to validate technical capabilities
The ideal candidate is someone who:
Treats the lab as their own, taking pride in organization and efficiency
Has a track record of reliability and ownership in previous roles
Can demonstrate, not just describe, their technical soldering skills
Is comfortable setting up bench equipment and running basic tests to support engineering
Communicates directly and succinctly, keeping engineering teams informed
Brings structure and accountability to lab operations
Works well independently while keeping stakeholders informed
