Position Summary:
This position is responsible for daily operations and maintenance of wind turbines. This will require an extensive amount of travel throughout the US. This person must have a “safety first” attitude with an understanding of doing the job right the first time. WINDA ID required for consideration
Essential Job Functions:
- Promote and comply with all Company and safety policies and procedures
- Working in and around wind turbines
- Climb multiple wind towers on a daily basis
- Ability to professionally interact with customers and coworkers on a daily basis
- Demonstrate safety as a top priority
- Install, inspect, maintain, operate and repair wind turbines
- Diagnose and fix any problem that could cause the turbine to be shut down unexpectedly or fail to operate properly
- Climb towers to inspect, troubleshoot, or repair turbine equipment
- Perform routine maintenance on wind turbines
- Test electrical components and systems, as well as mechanical and hydraulic systems
- Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, or electrical malfunctions
- Service underground transmission systems, wind field substations, or fiber optic sensing and control systems
- Replace worn or malfunctioning components
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
Education and Work Experience Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must possess an active Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) or have the ability to obtain a TWIC Card
- Must possess an active GWO BST certification or have the ability to obtain.
- Technical 2 or 4-year degree or certificate wind energy or related preferred
- Minimum one (1) years’ experience working in and around wind turbines, specifically for troubleshooting and preventative maintenance, or wind energy degree or certificate
- Experience using basic power and hydraulic tools
- Valid Driver’s License. (CDL Preferred)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Take reasonable care of your own and others’ health and safety and of those who may be affected in the day-to-day delivery of this role by taking personal responsibility for working to the SkyMast Energy’s Zero Injury principles
- Read, analyze and interpret technical procedures, reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals
- Effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public
- Add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
- Common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form
- Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
- Ability to use hydraulic tension and torque tooling
- Knowledge of entering and exiting the rotor. This includes locking out the rotor
- Knowledge of using the internal chain hoist
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow directions with precise execution
- Basic computer operation skills and familiarity with internet-based program navigation
- Ability to read, interpret and understand basic drawings and schematics
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders up to 125 meters in height
- Able to work in demanding physical and inclement weather conditions.
- Able to maintain certifications required to perform the work, including but not limited to:
First Aid / CPR, Tower Climb and Rescue, LOTO, Arc Flash, etc.
- Ability to demonstrate basic industrial safety practices / protocols including LOTO
- Comfort working remotely in a turbine as part of a team with limited supervisory interaction
Working Environment:
- Regularly exposed to extreme outside weather conditions and demanding physical situations
- Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; and extreme heat
- Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration
- Noise level in the work environment is usually loud

- Vestas, Nordex, GE preferred

Projects range from 2 weeks-6 months and all of our techs need to be available fit for duty 5-6 days a week 10-12 hours a day, are you good with that schedule?
- This is a 100% travel position, with sites nationwide, are you good with being on the road for months at a time?
- We do NOT do a rotation schedule, no 6 week on 1 week off, we expect technicians to remain on their project, but do offer time off with advance notice, is this ok?
