Medical Assistant / Clinical Tech Responsibilities:
DURING CLINIC VISIT
● Verifying patient before bringing them back
○ Calls patient from the waiting room
○ Verifies patient’s name and DOB
● Obtaining vitals including temperature and weight
○ Brings patient to back/screening room
● Rooming process
○ Asks and enters chief complaint
○ Asks and enters skin cancer history
○ Asks and enters surgical history
○ Asks and enters social history
○ Verifies current medication list
○ updates allergy list
○ Verifies pharmacy
○ Asks mandatory screening questions
○ Gives patient gown if necessary
○ Takes off dressings (e.g., unna boot, gauze wraps, etc.) if present
● Procedures
○ Sets procedural tray and brings it to room
○ Assists with procedure
○ Bandages patient
○ Verbally gives wound care instructions
○ Throws away sharps
○ Cleans biopsy tray
● Logging
○ Logs pathology specimens/cultures
○ Sends specimens/cultures out to path lab
● Team documenting tasks
○ Pre-populates patient note
○ Logs into EMR on iPad
○ Scribes for physician
○ Documents findings and plan
○ Pends orders and prescriptions
○ Completes patient instructions & AVS
● Cleans exam room for next patient
OTHER ACTIVITIES DURING CLINIC DAY
● Stocking
○ Stocks rooms with supplies
○ Fills cryo in the morning
● In-basket
○ Forwards med refill requests to provider
○ Forwards questions about medications to provider
○ Forwards after-visit questions to provider
○ Relays benign test/lab/path results to patients
○ Relays urgent messages to provider (e.g., possible infection of biopsy site, etc.)
○ Calls pharmacy
○ Biologic in-basket
● Quality control
○ Checks/logs lab temperature
○ Checks expiration date on urine pregnancy test kits, medications
● Sort through faxed prescription refills
● Opens/locks up cabinets in patient rooms
● Maintains sample cabinet
Experience needed: Minimal experience required.
Skills needed: Excellent interpersonal skills required. We are looking for a team player with a positive attitude who is willing to learn on the job. Must have basic computer / iPad competency.
