JOB DESCRIPTION OVERVIEW:
CJD is seeking an experienced Field Project Manager to lead the installation and execution of low voltage projects, including structured cabling (copper and fiber), access control, security systems, and audiovisual technologies. This role is responsible for managing field operations from project kickoff through closeout, ensuring installations are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with design intent and quality standards.
The Field Project Manager serves as the primary leader for onsite execution and works closely with the assigned Project Manager to understand project scope, schedules, budgets, and client requirements. Responsibilities include supervising installation teams and subcontractors, coordinating with other trades and vendors, conducting site surveys, estimating labor and materials, developing proposals for new opportunities, and managing project logistics and material deliveries.
This position requires a hands-on leader who can balance technical expertise, field supervision, customer service, and business operations while maintaining the highest standards of workmanship and professionalism.
This position will typically work on projects in Manhattan on a daily basis and this is where most of your time will be spent. This role reports to CJD's Rahway, New Jersey office and and you may be asked to work on project sites throughout the New York metropolitan area. Travel expenses will be reimbursed. The role is primarily field-based and requires a hands-on presence at client sites to support surveys, installations, project coordination, and quality assurance activities.
RESPONSIBILITES
Project Management
- Project Planning: Develop comprehensive project plans, including scope, timelines, resource allocation, and risk management specific to low voltage installations.
- On-Site Management: Supervise field operations, coordinating activities between teams, subcontractors, and clients to ensure smooth project execution of low voltage systems.
- System Installation Oversight: Ensure proper installation and configuration of low voltage systems, including troubleshooting and resolving technical issues as they arise.
- Quality Control: Monitor project quality and compliance with industry standards, regulations, and safety protocols specific to low voltage applications, including NEC codes and local regulations.
- Budget Management: Track project expenses and prepare financial reports, ensuring adherence to budget constraints while addressing any changes in project scope.
- Client Liaison: Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, addressing concerns, providing updates, and ensuring satisfaction throughout the project lifecycle.
- Team Leadership: Lead and mentor project teams, fostering a collaborative and efficient work environment focused on low voltage installations.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate project documentation, including contracts, change orders, submittals, and project progress reports.
Estimating Responsibilities
- Project Analysis: Review blueprints, project specifications, and requirement documents to understand the scope and needs of a project.
- Cost Calculation: Accurately determine costs for all project components, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors.
- Pricing and Procurement: Obtain pricing and sales quotes from suppliers, comparing costs and seeking out best possible pricing options as well as material availability
- Bid & Proposal Preparation: Create detailed proposals and bids for work, which often requires collaboration with sales and management team.
Logistics / Procurement Responsibilities
- Material Ordering: Process orders, ensure timely delivery to job site or CJD office, check and inventory orders and report any discrepancies
- Transportation and Shipment: Plan, track, and manage shipments to job sites, coordinating with Project Managers, Field Technicians, Building Management, General Contractors and client representatives to ensure timely delivery.
- Project Coordination: Manage shipping process to ensure material orders are correct and delivered to project sites as required. Review deliveries with Field Technicians to make sure materials are inventoried upon delivery and safely secured
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in project management within low voltage systems.
- Estimating Skills: Proven experience in estimating for low voltage projects and bid analysis is highly desirable.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of low voltage systems, including installation and troubleshooting, ability to read and understand floorplans, line diagrams and other technical documents. Must have strong knowledge of copper and fiber cabling.
- Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead field technicians, subcontractors, and cross-functional project teams.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage and collaborate effectively with stakeholders.
- Project Controls: Experience with project schedules, budgeting, change orders, documentation and progress reporting.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a proactive approach to addressing challenges.
Preferred
- RCDD Certification, RTPM, PMP
- Knowledge of Data Center installation
- Working knowledge of construction documentation platforms such as Fieldwire, Bluebeam, or similar applications
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

WORKING CONDITIONS
- Requires travel to project sites around the NY Metro area for site visits, meetings and surveys.
Pay: $100,000.00 - $125,000.00 per year
