Lead the Front of Quickway
Quickway Market is looking for an experienced, outgoing leader to take ownership of our customer-facing team at our busy 24-hour convenience store and gas station.
This is a hands-on management position—not simply another cashier or gas-attendant shift. Our Assistant Store Manager will be the visible leader on the floor, directing our frontline team, creating a positive customer experience, solving routine staffing and operational issues, and holding the team accountable.
The goal is to have a strong leader managing the front end so our General Manager can focus on broader store operations, inventory, vendors, and back-of-house responsibilities.
The right person will enjoy working with people, communicate confidently, notice what needs to be done, and be encouraging, accountable, and committed to excellence.
What the Role Entails
- Serve as the visible front-end leader during your scheduled shifts.
- Create a friendly, efficient customer experience and build relationships with regular and new customers.
- Direct, train, coach, and support frontline employees and gas attendants in real time.
- Set clear shift priorities and follow up on customer service, stocking, cleaning, merchandising, safety, and task completion.
- Create and maintain front-end schedules that support customer demand, employee breaks, vacations, holidays, and reliable 24-hour coverage.
- Respond to call-outs, late arrivals, and unexpected schedule changes by finding practical coverage solutions.
- Personally assist with frontline coverage when necessary while keeping your primary focus on leading the team and managing the operation.
- Enforce attendance expectations, job duties, customer-service standards, safety requirements, and company policies consistently.
- Recognize strong performance and address performance concerns promptly and professionally.
- Conduct employee coaching, documentation, progressive discipline, and terminations in coordination with the General Manager and company leadership.
- Oversee accurate register use, cash handling, safe drops, shift reconciliation, and investigation of cash discrepancies.
- Resolve customer concerns calmly while keeping the rest of the floor running smoothly.
- Maintain clear communication and effective handoffs between shifts in our 24-hour operation.
- Order front-end supplies and assist with inventory and operational-readiness tasks.
- Provide management coverage when the General Manager is unavailable.
- Communicate professionally with employees, customers, vendors, ownership, and company leadership.
Schedule Expectations
This position has a consistent regular schedule of Thursday through Monday from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., with Tuesday and Wednesday as the regular days off.
Because Quickway operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, occasional flexibility is required to help resolve coverage needs related to call-outs, vacations, holidays, emergencies, or other operational needs. This may occasionally include an earlier, later, or overnight shift and may provide opportunities for overtime.
Reliable and punctual attendance is an essential part of this leadership position.
What We’re Looking For
- Previous supervisory, assistant-manager, department-manager, or shift-lead experience in retail, convenience, grocery, fuel, hospitality, food service, or another fast-paced customer environment.
- A genuine people person who is friendly, confident, approachable, and comfortable leading from the floor.
- Strong judgment, initiative, and follow-through.
- The ability to direct employees, set clear expectations, and hold people accountable respectfully.
- Experience with scheduling, employee call-outs, training, coaching, or corrective action.
- Strong customer-service and conflict-resolution skills.
- Experience with registers, cash handling, safe drops, or shift reconciliation.
- The ability to prioritize several needs at once without losing sight of the customer experience.
- Clear and professional verbal and written communication.
- The ability to consistently work the position’s regular Thursday–Monday schedule.
- At least 18 years of age.
- A valid Oregon Food Handler Card and OLCC permit, or the ability to obtain both within the required timeframe.
- The ability to satisfy job-related background requirements consistent with applicable law.
Physical and Work Environment Requirements
- Ability to stand and move throughout an eight-hour shift.
- Frequent twisting, reaching, bending, and use of hands and fingers.
- Ability to frequently lift, push, or pull up to 20 pounds.
- Ability to occasionally lift, push, or pull up to 65 pounds.
- Comfort working in varying weather conditions and around the noise, cleaning products, gasoline fumes, and other conditions typical of a convenience store and gas station.
- Reasonable accommodations may be available to enable qualified individuals to perform the essential functions of the position.
Compensation and Benefits
- $24.00–$26.00 per hour, based on relevant leadership and operational experience
- Consistent full-time schedule
- Two consecutive regular days off each week
- Paid Time Off
- Oregon Sick Leave
- Employee discounts at Quickway Market and Quickway Coffee
