Job Overview
The VA is seeking reliable Cook I staff to support daily meal preparation for licensed care residents. This entry-level culinary role is ideal for candidates with basic experience in institutional cooking.
Required Experience
- At least 1 year of experience assisting a cook in preparing and cooking a varied menu
- Trade school substitution: Full-time cook training may substitute for experience (1 month of school = 2 months of experience)
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare meals for licensed care residents
- Serve meals in the cafeteria as needed
- Ensure food quality, including taste, color, and appearance
- Portion food accurately according to meal orders
- Follow menus for both regular and therapeutic diets
- Clean utensils, equipment, and work areas
- Follow posted cleaning schedules
- Report equipment repair or maintenance needs
- Receive, store, and inventory food supplies
- Participate in staff meetings and in-service training
- Comply with all local, state, and federal food-safety regulations
- Perform additional duties as assigned
