The Forensic Photographer position is a highly specialized role within a medical-legal environment requiring a unique combination of photographic expertise, technical proficiency, attention to detail, and professionalism. Applicants should understand that this position routinely involves exposure to graphic and potentially disturbing scenes, autopsies, traumatic injuries, decomposed remains, and other sensitive forensic evidence. Candidates are expected to work effectively in morgue, autopsy, crime scene, and other potentially hazardous environments while maintaining the highest standards of evidence documentation, chain of custody, confidentiality, and professional conduct.
Successful candidates should possess strong organizational, communication, and computer skills, as well as experience with professional digital camera systems, image processing software, and digital asset management. The position entails the ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, meet strict deadlines, and interact professionally with medical examiners, law enforcement personnel, attorneys, students, interns, and family members. Candidates must be capable of learning specialized forensic imaging techniques, providing courtroom testimony, conducting training and instructional activities, and maintaining photographic and computer equipment used in a forensic setting.
Additionally, this position entails the physical ability to lift, carry, and transport photographic, computer, and audiovisual equipment; climb ladders and stairs; work in confined spaces; stand for extended periods; and perform photographic documentation from a variety of positions and elevations. Incumbents in this role may have to respond to off-site investigations and work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, humidity, rain, and other environmental challenges.
