General Manager – Taproom & Hospitality - Chandler Street Breweries
Position Summary
The Taproom General Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, performance, and growth of the Chandler Street Breweries taproom and hospitality operations. Chandler Street Breweries is the home of Thin Man Brewery, Community Beer Works, and Smoldered Society Beer Co. This individual serves as the face of the brand's guest experience, ensuring every customer interaction reflects our commitment to exceptional beer, hospitality, culture, and community.
The Taproom General Manager is accountable for developing a high-performing team, delivering outstanding financial and operational results, and creating an environment that showcases the Company's products and brand. Success in this role requires a proactive, strategic leader who anticipates opportunities, drives continuous improvement, and inspires employees to deliver an exceptional guest experience every day.
The General Manager is expected to be a visible, engaged, and strategic leader who consistently demonstrates initiative, accountability, and sound judgment. The successful candidate proactively identifies opportunities, develops actionable plans, and leads the team in executing improvements that strengthen financial performance, enhance the guest experience, and reinforce the Company's culture and brand.
This position requires more than effective day-to-day management. It requires a leader who can build a destination taproom, develop people, create memorable guest experiences, and continually elevate the business through innovation, operational excellence, and strategic thinking.
Primary Responsibilities
Leadership & Culture
- Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing hospitality team built on accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Recruit, hire, onboard, train, and retain exceptional employees while establishing clear performance expectations.
- Foster a positive culture that reflects the Company's values and creates an engaging workplace.
- Provide consistent coaching, feedback, recognition, and performance management.
- Develop future leaders within the organization through mentoring and employee development.
Guest Experience
- Ensure every guest receives an exceptional and memorable experience that reflects the Company's brand and hospitality standards.
- Champion hospitality, product knowledge, and service excellence throughout the organization.
- Continually evaluate and improve the customer experience through observation, guest feedback, and employee coaching.
- Ensure the taproom environment, service standards, and product presentation consistently showcase the quality of the Company's beer and food offerings.
Business Performance
- Own all financial and operational performance of the taproom.
- Develop and execute strategies to increase revenue, guest counts, profitability, and customer loyalty.
- Analyze weekly business metrics to identify trends, opportunities, and areas requiring corrective action.
- Develop proactive action plans to improve business performance rather than reacting to operational challenges after they occur.
- Create and execute initiatives that drive sustainable business growth while maintaining operational excellence.
Operational Excellence
- Ensure consistent execution of all operating procedures, policies, and hospitality standards.
- Oversee scheduling, labor management, inventory controls, food and beverage quality, sanitation, and regulatory compliance.
- Partner closely with brewery operations to ensure product quality, availability, and effective communication between production and hospitality teams.
- Continuously evaluate operational processes and implement improvements that enhance efficiency and guest satisfaction.
Brand & Product Stewardship
- Serve as an ambassador for the Company's brand, culture, and values.
- Ensure employees possess strong product knowledge and confidently educate guests about the brewery's beers, brewing process, and brand story.
- Create experiences that differentiate the taproom within the marketplace and strengthen customer loyalty.
- Work collaboratively with marketing and leadership to execute promotions, events, community engagement initiatives, and product launches.
Strategic Leadership
- Develop short- and long-term operational plans aligned with Company objectives.
- Use operational and financial data to guide decision-making and prioritize improvement initiatives.
- Anticipate operational challenges and implement sustainable solutions before issues negatively impact performance.
- Partner effectively with executive leadership and cross-functional departments to achieve organizational goals.
- Communicate regularly with ownership regarding business performance, opportunities, risks, and recommended actions.
Qualifications
- Five or more years of progressive hospitality leadership experience, including multi-department management responsibility.
- Experience leading a brewery taproom, restaurant, or hospitality operation with responsibility for financial performance.
- Demonstrated success building high-performing teams and developing leaders.
- Strong understanding of financial statements, labor management, inventory controls, and operational metrics.
- Proven ability to use business data to develop and execute strategic improvement initiatives.
- Excellent communication, coaching, and interpersonal leadership skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Craft beer knowledge is a must; Cicerone certification or equivalent product knowledge is desirable but not required.
