We are looking for an experienced Barista to prepare and serve hot and cold beverages, including various types of coffee, tea & smoothies. One year or more experience is preferred. Barista responsibilities include educating customers on our drinks menu, making recommendations based on their preferences, up-selling special items and taking orders. To be successful in this role, you must have excellent customer service skills and a willingness to make great coffee drinks in a FAST paced environment. We are a small team so dependability to show up on time and ready to work for your shift is required. You should be available for 30-35 hours a week for opening shift (5:45 AM - 12 PM) with the potential for an occasional weekend shift Saturday and/or Sunday 7 AM-Close/12 PM. Baristas do receive tips in addition to their hourly pay as well.
Responsibilities
- Greet customers kindly as they enter
- Assist customers with drink menus and answer their questions regarding ingredients
- Take orders while paying attention to details (e.g. preferences of coffee blend, dairy and sugar ratios)
- Prepare beverages following recipes
- Serve beverages and prepared food, like cookies, pastries and muffins
- Receive and process payments (cash and credit cards plus employee badges)
- Keep the bar & customer area clean
- Keep all areas stocked
- Check if brewing equipment operates properly and report any maintenance needs
- Comply with health and safety regulations
- Communicate customer feedback to managers and recommend new menu items
- Attention to detail during opening & closing process
Skills
- Previous work experience as a Barista is preferred but we will train the right candidate
- Friendly and compassionate service
- Hands-on experience with brewing & espresso equipment
- Knowledge of sanitation regulations
- Reliability and team player
- Basic math skills/Register Skills/Counting back change
- Ability to gauge customers’ preferences
- Excellent communication skills
- High school diploma; relevant training is a plus
