Job Overview
The CS Rising Counselor (High School student) supports the facilitation of a dynamic, project-based STEM experience for rising 6th–8th grade students. Counselors work alongside Camp Teachers and Creative Hut instructors to guide small groups of students through hands-on design challenges focused on computer science, robotics, and emerging technologies. Counselors serve as mentors and role models, helping to foster a collaborative, engaging, and inclusive camp environment while supporting students throughout the week-long innovation process and final showcase.
Roles and Responsibilities

Support student learning and engagement during a week-long, project-based STEM camp experience.

Assist in facilitating small-group activities, helping students collaborate, problem-solve, and stay engaged in daily challenges.

Serve as a mentor and positive role model for middle school students, promoting teamwork, creativity, and perseverance.

Provide guidance and encouragement to student teams as they design, build, and refine solutions to a central challenge.

Assist Camp Teachers and instructors with preparation, setup, and facilitation of daily activities and materials.

Help manage daily camp routines, including transitions, attendance, lunch, and maintaining an organized learning environment.

Support a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all participants.

Encourage student participation in hands-on STEM activities and support the development of confidence and communication skills.

Assist in preparing students for the final showcase and support presentation logistics.
Qualifications
Below are the minimum qualifications for this job. Equivalent combinations of education and experience are also acceptable.

Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics interest

Ability to work effectively with middle school students; to carry out designated instructional assignments.

Good human relations and communication skills
Organizational Relationship
This part-time hourly position reports to the Coordinator of Work-Based Learning in Teaching and Learning.

Salary Level: Band 1 $14.59/hourly
